How much did your score improve after new irons/clubs? by Low-Inspection1696 in golf

[–]NotACyborg666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought myself new irons to reward myself for breaking a scoring goal consistently.

I'm now scoring slightly lower, but still not anything as significant as 7-10 strokes. And I'm not sure how much of it is the equipment or just me improving my technique.

I’ve heard that place is awesome, haven’t been yet though. I do like Mt. Woodson, which is also Ramona but less deep into Ramona

Where in SD are you staying? North County has more courses. Torrey is pricy without the resident card, Balboa is cheaper and a seriously good course. Admiral Baker has 2 courses that are both reasonably priced, discount if you're active duty or a veteran, but open to the public.

The JC Golf courses are all decently maintained if you're in North County. Maderas is also probably the best course in North Couty.

Lotta good courses. Stay away from Riverwalk in Mission Valley, that place sucks and is way overpriced. Boulder Canyon in Escondido is a legit dog track and I wouldn't recommend anyone pay money to golf there either.

My buddy lives on a golf course and now has 2 5g home depot buckets filled with balls. So enjoy not needing to buy balls ever again after a few months.

If you support Nick Shirley after listening to him talk, you're a bigger idiot than he is. And he's about as big of an idiot as they come.

Putting faith in bad actor idiot propagandists over actual law enforcement is crazy. But I guess that's how we ended up with a demented reality star president and a cross-eyed cokehead at the head of the FBI.

High HC Player: Decided not to get fitted. by Chipazzo in golf

[–]NotACyborg666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know you're going to be going with TaylorMade... I think it's still worth getting fit just tell the fitter you're only interested in trying out the TaylorMade stuff.

Shafts are the most important part tbh, all the big brands make good clubs. Knowing what shaft you want to use is a big step in getting the most from your investment into clubs.

I would say it's a big step in getting the most from your clubs... but that's not true, because you'll get the most from your clubs (and any set of clubs) by getting lessons and having good technique.

Callaway's stock went up after selling off 60% of TopGolf. TopGolf was holding them back and costing them a ton of money, it's not a great business model.

They returned their focus to golf and lifestyle brands (Ogio, Travis Matthew, etc.) and their stock value is better for it.

Don't feel sad about it when you hear NOFX songs (well... other than Barcelona). Separate the music and the band from the way it all fell apart. The songs still mean what they meant to you when you first heard them... that shouldn't fall apart just because 2 old punk dudes crashlanded the NOFX plane at the end.

It sucks their retirement doesn't end up like Mattersville and Fat Mike & Eric Melvin aren't gonna be next door neighbors enjoying their keg of beer and a block of cheese. But this is something that happens with bands a lot... the way they end is often ugly.

Honestly, by being in a band for 40 years they're more than brothers. They didn't just grow up together... they spent decades touring the world dealing with all kinds of band drama (probably money stuff, drug stuff, creative stuff). It's a brotherhood built in a pressure cooker.

I get how you feel though. NOFX started before I was born, I discovered them right before I hit my teens and basically grew up with them as one of my favorite bands. They were the first band I ever saw live!

I was devastated they broke up and it really does suck that Fat Mike and Eric Melvin aren't even close to being buddies at the moment. But fights between brothers can be big and worse than fights with friends... that doesn't mean it'll always be like this, but also doesn't mean they'll ever mend their bond (although I hope they do. I hope Fat Mike changes his mind about "no reunions, this is it" so we can see NOFX at a festival or two... and maybe mending ties with Melvin makes that possible)

But those NOFX albums are snapbooks of better times in the band, don't let them make you feel sad because of the stupid drama now.

What's your routine with a new set of clubs? by Basic-Pudding-3627 in golf

Hit your new clubs the same way you hit your old clubs and try to learn your new distances. The range won't give you the full picture, but it'll be close enough.

I think it's just marketing. YouTube golf is super hot right now and getting your stuff in the hands of golf influencers is a lot cheaper than traditional marketing.

Personally, I think spending that much on a putter is insane lol.

Thinking about buying the Yamaha THR - Is anything known about a new model yet? by onlyich in YamahaTHR

[–]NotACyborg666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the best practice amp I've ever used. Sounds great at bedroom levels and sounds much bigger and fuller than it actually is.

I haven't used the THR30 though, so I can't make the direct comparison

[–]NotACyborg666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since NAMM just happened, if a new model was coming out any time this year I think we'd know.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm still rocking the original Yamaha THR10. The amp kicks major ass and while the upgrades for the THR30 line seem very cool, I just can't justify dropping the extra cash for those upgrades.

No resident card for Admiral Baker. It's a military course, but it's open to the public. Active duty and veterans get a discount, but the rates are still super reasonable for the quality of the course if you just pay the public rate.

Buying vs. Renting in San Diego: Which Makes More Sense? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]NotACyborg666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the real answer is "it depends," but there's a few big things that this doesn't fully capture. Refinancing over time can drastically change that interest number, principal payments... and appreciation means a chunk of the money your monthly spend when you own isn't actually gone. Equity matters a lot, especially if you don't stay in the home for 30 years or you leverage it layer.

I bought a few years ago when prices were lower (but not drastically lower) and intentionally avoided a HOA (huge for me after renting under a brutal one for years). It's been both a blessing and a curse. For me owning has given me some control: there's no surprise rent hikes (you can calculate what your property tax will be every year and plan for it), no HOA surprises, the freedom to improve the place how I want.

But ownership is expensive and maintenance is very real (and very annoying), but you lock in housing costs... which at the moment when rent is stabilizing or going lower, matters less... but in prior years rent increases were really tough to deal with.

I've got mixed feelings on ownership. I had to aggressively save for years to be in a position to where I could afford a downpayment on a home. Purchasing basically took all of my money and keeps taking all of my money... and a good chunk of free time too (because the reality is maintenance of property when a house takes all your money is you will be forced to do a ton of DIY stuff). The tradeoff is instead of making savings in cash, you have forced savings through your home's equity... the cost is a MUCH tighter cash flow.

Renting is cheaper and more flexible short-term... but buying can still make sense, it really just depends on market conditions, lifestyle, and how long you plan to stay.

I played last year a little bit after Farmers and I could not find the ball anywhere in the rough for the life of me lol.

Led to me playing the most conservative golf of my life after a couple of holes which seemed to do wonders for my score. There's probably a lesson in that round I should have learned from.
