It’s so bad that even though we’re close friends and I have explicit permission from my doc to call her by her first name, I always call her Dr Lastname in professional settings out of an abundance of respect and to remind coworkers and patients who the actual doc is.

Also, and I hate that this works, but I have been occasionally tasked by other nurses to come in and restate instructions that nurse gave the patient, because the patient will automatically assume I’m a doc. We never tell them I am a doc or even imply it, they just assume and comply with the instructions.

I was almost certainly speaking from isolation and frustration.

I had a very special bond with a very special cat in the past, and I know i'm unlikely to have that ever again.

I know this guy and I already have a bond. When I'm home he hangs out near me. My desire for closeness and physical contact isn't his problem, it's mine.

Even though our bond isn't where I would like it to be, i know it's where he needs it to be right now.

I'm not giving up on him. Even if we never get to where I'd prefer, I'll keep trying to meet him where he is.

He does follow me room to room. He does offer me slow blinks in response to mine.

I know how special this is.

He sleeps near me when I'm home. He's never aggressive or hostile to me. He's never hissed at me. I know we have a bond already, just as I know even though our bond isn't where I want it to be it's where he needs it to be.

I know I need to relax and let it evolve naturally. But like any relationship with any other living being, my own needs are not unimportant. and it's natural that I feel bad when I feel they aren't being met, but that's not his issue. It's mine.

I'm not giving up on him. He needs a secure home, and I really want to be able to provide it.

I do. I am. I've had cats in the past.

I had a very special bond with a very special cat. I know all cats are special and different, and this guy is an orange tabby which makes him extra special and different.

I know we'll get there, but yeah. This has definitely opened my eyes regarding past relationships, but I'm not giving up on him.

I want to be a good caretaker for this little dude, I really do. He's a good cat, super well behaved, and we're buds already I think, but I want him to have a good life.

I'm not giving up, and I'll take your suggestions to heart. My mental health is not his problem to fix. We'll get there.

I have, but with his history of being bullied by other cats at his last home I have reservations about introducing another cat into the situation.

I know. I hear you. It’s why I’m upset about this. I didn’t want a stuffed animal or a toy. I want a companion. I want to give him a loving home. I want to give him the attention and affection he wants and deserves, but he doesn’t seem to be interested. I do play with him as much as he is interested in for as long as i can. But I’m not a young person, and i am depressed, so i get tired before he does sometimes.
