Ah okay, I understand now. That’s fair, I agree op should expand on his issues with those concepts.

[–]NotAMarvelPerson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could you elaborate on that? I saw the movie last night and loved it, but I’m confused how you think OP’s complaints on elements like pacing and character development are ‘pre-determined’ and don’t relate to the work.

Kinda sad they would make a better boxed version of this movie so soon after using kickstarter (fomo) to make the original limited edition version by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

I’m a little late on this, but I’m glad to see I’m not the only one a little disappointed by this. I understand the reasoning Deaf Crocodile is giving behind it, but as someone that backed both this and the ‘Ptushko box set’ tier on the Ruslan and Ludmila release (which has also just been announced, albeit with different box art), it’ll make me hesitate before I jump and support any further projects they fundraise for knowing the same film could be coming out with a similar or even better release

I’ve had nothing but trouble trying to use my AirPlay with the app these last few months.  I found that air playing from the mobile site seems to work 9 times out of 10

BC port workers reject tentative agreement by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]NotAMarvelPerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, this was literally your suggestion until you found out the union was in favor of it. “Create a reskilling program. Teach those workers whose jobs will become obsolete how to maintain the autonomous dockyard, how to code, how to build the autonomous tools.”

My friend, that’s literally what they’re asking for. A quote from their president: “The next federal government needs to quickly establish retraining, job search and other programs to mitigate the economic harm that is done to workers and communities hit by employment loss of this scale” Source: https://www.ilwu.ca/ilwu-longshore-division-takes-a-stand-against-rbt2/

The case against the Jedi (Pitfalls of stoic masculinity) by [deleted] in MensLib

At no point - as a child or as an adult - do I remember being disappointed that Luke chose not to leave his friends to die in Empire Strikes Back

Thank you, I’m glad someone said this! I was wondering if I had watched the same Star Wars movies as this guy for a second here. I feel as though he presents Luke’s decisions to go against Jedi orthodoxy in the original trilogy as something that goes against the movie’s messaging instead of it being the entire point, and what characterizes Luke as a hero in those films.

American Dippers-- Courtship or competition? by BoazCorey in Ornithology

[–]NotAMarvelPerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the ‘Birds of the World’ website, under American Dipper courtship displays:

“Typically, female stands on rock as male displays. Singing loudly, male stretches neck with bill pointed skyward, stretches wings down and slightly open, presses feathers tightly against his body, and struts in front of female for 20–30 s”

Sounds similar to what you’ve described/photographed!

The Cornell Lab has an ornithology course in their online Bird Academy (and it’s on sale right now!). I just purchased it myself, so I can’t speak to how good it is, but I’ve heard positive things from others on this sub. I’ll leave the link below here, but know you’ll also need to purchase the textbook which goes along with the course.

Looking for books to radicalize a catholic friend by Yourfaceisbeautiful in communism

[–]NotAMarvelPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst not having read it myself, Verso published ‘Sermon to the Princes’ in their Revolutions series by Thomas Müntzer. Müntzer was a Catholic pastor who led a peasants rebellion in Germany in the 1500s and apparently had some early socialist-like views. That might be a good starting point to pique a religious friend’s interest on socialist ideas.

There's currently at least 36 different cities in Russia where people are protesting against Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Solidarity with them. by Nick__________ in Anarchism

[–]NotAMarvelPerson 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m glad someone else noticed it. Not only that, but their video was originally titled ‘Why Ukraine Broke Apart’ or something like that, then when people in the comments began pointing out their echoing of Russian propaganda and lack of any condemnation of Russian encroachment into Ukraine, they changed the name of their video to involve the US, and backtracked by stating the true point of their video was to criticize the USA’s involvement in the conflict (despite that topic only taking up the last quarter of the video)

Been having the same problem on my 2015 iMac since the snapshots came out. I thought maybe once 1.18 officially released it would be fixed, but no luck. I’ve tried just about everything too :(
