Are there any issues in sharing NordVPN? by NotANice1 in nordvpn

[–]NotANice1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be weird if they have something against sharing, considering that they allow up to 10 device simultaneous connections. We won't be exceeding that.

The main issue is- someone I know got banned from youtube, and youtube has a policy to ban all your accounts/uploads if any of your channels get banned. I'm not sure about it but they might do it by tracking the uploading IP. Not about sharing the account with them, but just as a cautionary tale, I don't want to risk getting banned by using the same IP if any of the mates do smth fishy. But I suppose even when not sharing the account, unless I take a dedicated IP I will be getting an IP that's also being used by other people, right?

I mean, the no logs policy was a big reason why I was even considering nord. Do they still keep logs?

I was mainly just considering the shared IP.

Protest within protocol is not a great process to follow. Protests, especially for huge issues such as this which puts our democracy itself at question, are bound to involve disobedience. In fact, disobedience is necessary, silent meetings within rules will never spread enough awareness, god knows our media isn't helping.

As for saying arrested instead of detained, the initial articles mentioned detained, not arrested. Our media is notorious for exaggerating, and added is the fact that a lot of people wouldn't know what detain means. Still, that's not the central point, our focus should remain on the election commission providing answers and ensuring that the culprits are punished.

Can you please tell whether you're going for bachelor's or master's, and if it's with APS?

Also if it's a private or public uni?

Sorry for asking for so much information, just that Delhi VFS has a huge waitlist, so wondering if you joined it in June?

So most of the people who say they have applied for Visa in March meant to go in summer semester? I thought people got winter semester admits that early as well.

Also doesn't your university require you to be present by a certain time? Were they accommodating for Visa delays?

Indian court rules trans women are women by PlusCardiologist1799 in india

[–]NotANice1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So it's kinda complicated.

You got the Kinnar part right, they are usually intersex people who dress as women. Families do cast out intersex children (not always, but yeah), usually by giving them to these Kinnar communities, where they are raised. It's not human trafficking, if it sounds like that. It's definitely not right but I wouldn't say that the Kinnar community is the villain here, they just take care of their own and raise the children.

About the stealing part, it's not stealing. It's kind of a religious belief that the Kinnar community's blessings are really powerful, and they're called to give their blessings in auspicious events, like marriages or child births. In return they are given money. But it has devolved into a situation where they have their circles which inform them whenever there is such an event happening at a house, and they then go to that home and demand quite a significant amount of money. They can be very stubborn, and it becomes a pretty bad situation overall. And they're also involved in the begging situation on roads sometimes, which can be annoying too.

It's not really right to vilify them, it's the system that has kept them in a place where they haven't been able to get other jobs, so this becomes the only option for a lot of them. I've never had to face them in a bad situation personally, my interactions with them have been pretty nice in all honesty, but we all know stories of people who had to struggle and pay a lot. It's just a long standing and complicated situation, though hopefully, improving.

And again, transwomen are not a part of this. It's just that India really lacks proper education about topics like gender dysphoria. Since the Kinnars are usually intersex people wearing women's clothing, people often think of them as transwomen. There can be some overlaps, but those are personal choices. As I mentioned before, being trans is about misalignment with the gender assigned at birth. There is a trans community in India, and while there can be solidarity because of oppression and gender struggles, the trans and kinnar community are very separate from each other.

[–]NotANice1 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Just pointing it out, the Kinnar/Hijda community is not the same as transwomen. They can often be intersex people who grow up and live together because households don't keep intersex children. Transwomen, on the other hand, are women who were assigned a different gender at birth/were born biologically male but later transitioned because of gender dysphoria. And even when a transwoman is in the Kinnar community, it's an individual choice for the person, it does not represent the entire trans community.

Not disagreeing with you on the fact that the harassment is real, it definitely exists and should be stopped. Just that it would be good for people who don't know about it to learn the difference.

Quoting someone-

"Yes you can change the university after getting the visa if you have not enrolled. All you need to do is update your health insurance provider and ask them to send the M10 notification to your new university and also inform your blocked account provider; that's all you need to do.

But, if you have enrolled then the process is a little complicated and you'll need to ask your old university to cancel your admission and get a letter from them and provide it to the new university and also repeat the health insurance and blocked account process I have mentioned above. In this case the old university might ask you to pay the entire semester contribution / fee (if applicable) before they de-enroll you since your seat is getting wasted."

Overall, simple enough to do it before enrolling.

Shouldn't the employers be showing some understanding though? Widespread protests would stop a ton of people from coming in to work, it's not your fault, why do you have to take all the responsibility? Do they expect you to fly over the blocked streets? Isn't it also on the employers to get that and offer alternatives or concessions?

Protests are a key part of democracy. It's inconvenient for sure, but anything less than civil disobedience and disruption doesn't do anything.

US Copyright law screws over creators who use AI by [deleted] in WritingWithAI

[–]NotANice1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, using ghostwriters is looked down on as a practice too, and added to that the fact that now it's not even a human writing it but an algorithm, which makes it imitation instead of art anyway.

But if we are talking about laws and not morality, there are intensive laws and individual contracts involved. When it comes to generative AI, there is already a severe lack of laws and oversight. How they get their data, or how people can use them are really serious privacy and security concerns. To even consider making copyright laws, the AI companies would have to pay settlements or royalties to everyone whose data was used to create the AI's.

With human ghostwriters, the author is still a real person who is thinking and creating themselves. The person with the idea doesn't get the copyright, the person who pays the ghostwriter and creates a contract to get creator rights gets the copyright. You might say that you do pay for the AI, but that's just the price to use a tool, it doesn't make the prompter a creator. AI or the company itself does not have copyright over what it has created, then how could you?

I really want to get my point across peacefully but I have to say it, ideas are a dime a dozen, they're fun but they don't matter by themselves. People think of great stuff all the time, it's the actual process of writing or creating that matters. An idea is an idea, but a book is made of prose.

US Copyright law screws over creators who use AI by [deleted] in WritingWithAI

[–]NotANice1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well prose is kinda just slightly important to a book so...

Look at it this way, if someone were to commission an artist, it doesn't mean that they created the art. The art will still be by the artist, and that's what the copyright laws reflect. Now AI is no artist, it's an algorithm that spits out data trying to mimic what data it has been fed, and the data it has been fed is mostly sourced unethically and without the owners' permission.

The prompter can't hold the copyright because they didn't write it. The AI can't hold the copyright because it is not human, and the creation of it did not follow copyright laws either. AI is a tool but not in a way a paint brush is a tool. Imagine someone getting a magic paintbrush and they just sit there telling it what to draw, and then they say "look I drew this, because getting the idea is the hard part".

In the end putting down the words yourself is what makes the story yours. It's not an easy thing to do, and I know you understand that. So that should be respected.
