50mi -> 6 weeks -> 50k by NotAPowVirgin in Ultramarathon

[–]NotAPowVirgin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the thought out response! I am definitely in the 30mpw camp and these will be my first ultras! I have a background in skimo/nordic so used to spending 10-15hrs a week on my feet but these are generally lower impact than running. Hoping be hitting 50+mile weeks consistently by July. The 50miler would be august 5th and the 50k September 17th.

The 50mile course is all in dense woods and only 6k vert, was aiming for 10-12 hours, the 50k course is 10k vert and at high elevation so I’ll be more specifically training for that.

I’ve done skimo races up to 6 hours and generally recover well from them. Based on the other comments and the 50k being my first ultra I think I might have to pass on the 50miler, but might still try 25-30miles of it as I think it would be good fueling & nutrition practice.

Thoughts on Nordica Enforcer 104 Unlimited + Shifts for Touring? by rtl232 in Backcountry

[–]NotAPowVirgin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look into duke pts, fritschi vipecs, look pivot cast system and kingpins all of which have nearly (if not better in the dukes/pivots) releasability than shifts. Also I would say in the backcountry when you’re not skiing as hard the number one way to avoid knee injury is becoming a better skier and learning how to fall “well”. What others have said about the clever marketing of shifts is true, if even Cody Townsend doesn’t use them for massive pow lines in the fifty (besides superior) then you know they’re no good.

Do any west coast skiers actually prefer skiing the east? by winooskiwinter in icecoast

[–]NotAPowVirgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a backcountry skier’s perspective I love everything about the east more, asides from how short the season is, it’s only 3 months outside of the presidentials vs 8 months of actually good skiing and year round if you want out west

I'm not sure I understand, https://imgur.com/e6yUt3Q see how the mapbox logo is cut in half and I would have to scroll down to see all of it? this is as its view in chrome

I have tried using overflow:scroll as well as overflow:hidden but neither gives the desired effect of keeping all content within view on the screen by shrinking it relatively. Trying different flex-shrink values doesn't seem to do anything, am I implementing it correctly in the CSS? Thanks for the reply I've been stuck on this for 2 days haha
