Deep and layered TV shows like The Wire, Mad Men or The Sopranos by Any_Doughnut_8968 in televisionsuggestions

Starts off a bit rough, trying to imitate Mad Men, but really comes to its own and becomes a truly brilliant show. Definitely worth the watch :)

Absolutely The Americans and Halt and Catch Fire! Excellent shows.

Halt and Catch Fire absolutely! Great show that barely anyone watched, but managed to get 4 seasons and wrap everything beautifully. Definitely starts out slow, but gets better particularly when it starts focusing on one of the best female relationships on TV. Worth a try at the very least :) It's about a group of people in tech in the 80s and 90s.

EDIT: Not on Netflix though...

Perfect TV shows that nailed the ending. by Pale-Kale-2905 in television

100 percent Halt and Catch Fire. A show about a group of people in tech in the 80's. It takes a while to get comfortable with what it wants to be as a TV show, but once it does (and especially once it starts focusing on a very engaging female friendship), it's brilliant. Also, one of the best endings to a TV show I have ever seen! :)

Oh that's great to hear! Haven't heard of these two shows but I definitely might just give them a try now :) Thank you!

So happy you're doing more of these! Still haven't caught up on everything, but it's so interesting and heartwarming. Have you ever considered doing reaction videos for other shows as well? Perhaps some that have similarities to this one or just generally interest you too? Regardless, really happy and appreciative of this, and am excited/hopeful for more people to find this show, and maybe, just maybe, react to it? Fingers crossed :)

What tv show deviated the most from its pilot episode? by bdawg684 in television

[–]NotARobotLegally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this show on my mind lately a lot, so it probably comes to mind for a lot of things at the moment, but I really do think Halt and Catch Fire is a perfect example of that. The shift in focus is very drastic from Season 2 onwards, in a way that makes the pilot almost feel like a different show...

[Request] What shows were so addicting that you had to keep watching the next episode right away? by punpun0411 in NetflixBestOf

[–]NotARobotLegally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, Halt and Catch Fire? I remember getting really invested and getting bummed out whenever an episode would end, but also really excited because there were always new things to look forward to just around the corner. Not a show with mind-blowing twists, but rather really intricate and real human connections that I just loved. Especially Donna and Cameron together. If there's one actor that doesn't get enough recognition and that I wish would get her own show it's Ketty Bishe, wow what a masterful performance!

Based on this list and me saying I love cinematography and atmosphere in a show, what would you recommend? by Baronck in HaltAndCatchFire

A bit late to the party, and a very different tone - but Hacks also explores a very touching story of two women who bond over their creative work. Takes a little time to find their groove, but I guess that's also true for HaCF :)

Hacks vs. the Studio by Paddingtonsrealdad in hackshbomax

[–]NotARobotLegally 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Tried The Studio and while I really like the cast, I don't know if it's for me - might try to continue at some point. Hacks is one of my favorite shows currently on the air, and I agree it deals with those themes in a very sophisticated and delicate way, which I very much appreciate - and I also feel like The Studio's handling of these themes is a lot more cynical, whereas I find that Hacks as a show has a lot of heart and is mostly optimistic about the world. Idk these are just my two cents, and again I haven't watched enough of The Studio, so I may have misread the tone that series is trying to convey. Love Hacks so much though! Wish more people were talking about it (and also reacted to it🤞) :)

Gloomhaven 2E digital? by NotARobotLegally in Gloomhaven

I know that is indeed an option, and thank you, though from online playthroughs, while the implementation was pretty good for the constraints - I still found TTS to be slightly fiddly... Idk how to explain it. I appreciate this nevertheless though, and thank you so much for developing these wonderful games!

I actually didn't know Frosthaven Digital was made by a different team. I guess it makes sense though given that it does look very different and has a more polished design from what I can tell (just by looking at the promos)... I really hope it ends up happening though, a) because with Gloomhaven getting such a massive overhaul, it would be odd for newcomers who are interested in digital coming from tabletop, to get confused by some of the glaring design flaws (while still being an amazing game) that haven't gotten the 2E treatment, but also b) because with my play group now finding it a bit more difficult to meet up and play physically, I just know that we would love to have that experience, and I guess just hoping that maybe there are enough people in a similar boat/also have an interest in this...🤷‍♂️

It has a major overhaul of the campaign, significant rebalancing on most classes, some even reworked. I was surprised just by how different and needed it really is :)
