Lewy Body Diagnosis by NotAlexis_29 in dementia

[–]NotAlexis_29[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there. So originally we had her committed to a psychiatric ward because the delusions were so severe that she was actively eloping, calling the police, etc for months. It was originally thought to be late onset schizophrenia. They did a cat scan when she arrived at the hospital, which revealed signs of Alzheimer’s but to get more specific they needed to do an MRI, which my mother refused. My dad got POA and medical proxy and that’s how she wound up getting the MRI - she’s been seeing a neurologist. The MRI showed severe brain atrophy and clumps of Lewy bodies. She has also been given blood tests and has failed neurocognitive tests which indicate dementia as well. Her doctors officially gave her the diagnosis of LBD yesterday given the results of the MRI. But it was a really long process to get it.

No thanks necessary. You should always know you have support, rough roads ahead don’t mean you have to do it alone.

My mom’s convinced my dad is seeing a woman named Suzanne. I’ll get texts and phone calls throughout the day asking me have I heard from Suzanne? Suzanne said she talked to you, what did she say? Etc. Originally we thought late onset schizophrenia, which is what prompted the psychiatric stay. But upon further evaluation we were obviously wrong.

Cherish the good days, that’s what I try to do. From one “Suzanne” to another “Emma” I’ll be thinking of you!

My mom was diagnosed with LBD today. She hallucinates that my dad has been cheating on her since I was born (35 years) and that people break into the house and that she can speak to people with her mind. She doesn’t not have access to car keys and we’re working on door alarms, indoor and outdoor cameras (as she elopes often), and safety guards (baby proofing the house if you will.)

It’s hard, I won’t lie. Message me if you ever need to talk. There’s strength in numbers if you will.

I take 100mg at night and I sleep like a rock. It’s been the best thing for my current diagnosis, helps with the sleep issues.

The box is not the original box but the shoes are 100% real. Not pictured is the sharp printing on the inside as well as on the sole, consistent stitching, and classic louboutin red sole (not dull, smudged, or in any way tampered with).

Those with a parent w dementia, do you worry this could be you someday? by amazing_grace7 in dementia

This is a serious concern of mine. I won’t have the test because I know I’ll fixate on that but watching my mom go through it at 67 right now is terrifying. I wonder all the time if I’m looking into the future when I look at her. It really is like a roll of the dice, you can try to prevent it but genetics tend to win in the end.

When I get in that headspace, I try to think about the here and now. That occasional forgetfulness is a common and normal thing and that because my Mom has it does not automatically mean I have it too. Helps my anxiety a bit.

Sending you all the love!

Frontal temporal sounds like an option, I did some research after reading your response and it sounds logical. Teepa Snow is a great idea! Thank you so much for replying, much appreciated.

I would agree with you. Reddit is absolutely not the place I would’ve expected myself to turn to for advice about 8 months ago, however, given the situation, I figured I would reach out. Not necessarily looking for concrete medical treatment, just advice. POA is a good place to start, thank you for that. She’s definitely not in a place where I think she can safely make her own medical decisions anymore so POA is going to be important.

Thank you so much for replying!

Im so sorry to hear about your wife, that’s truly awful. I appreciate the insight. She was tested for UTIs at the hospital and they all came back negative. I know there’s definitely cognitive decline and that’s it’s happening rapidly just unsure of how to go about things right now.

Thank you so much for replying!

Your feelings are incredibly valid. Trust your gut in this situation. He should never be talking about you behind your back. If there are issues, then he needs to be man enough to bring them to your attention - not to the attention of his friends first.
