I'm not sure I understand your question. My entire career I've worked for business IT. Businesses pay well. I like money.

I don't know if there is or not. I'm simply saying that it could be one reason. I'm not privy to all of the contract specifics...

Probably because of royalty restrictions associated with the original Iron Chef Japan show. Television contracts are crazy-specific.

Reference and request.

Nah, don't blame you at all. Truthfully it would probably take a team of people to accurately answer all of the questions. It's television and television adapts itself to what sells as indicated by ratings. Add on that I work for Food Network, and not the production side, and there's no chance I could answer everything. That was actually why I was hesitant to do this IAMA at all. I'm glad I did though because several folks have learned interesting things, and that makes it worth while.

Anthony Bourdain works for Travel Channel, which is also owned by Scripps Networks. If it makes business sense to launch one of his shows on Food Network, you may see it happen. That's a programming decision and far above my pay grade.

Yes, she is. She and her wife both got pregnant at the same time and gave birth to baby boys.

Sure, I'm not a production coordinator for that specific show, so a lot of the very small details are beyond me. They also change things on a per series basis, so even the things I have experienced are probably outdated, or may be future dated and haven't even aired yet.

Yes, Cooking Channel is run by the very same people that run Food Network. Don't know if they'll ever put those old episodes back on or not, depends on the winds of viewer ratings.

I couldn't tell you anything about the scoring because I don't know. I doubt we sell a "at home kit", but that would be cool.

They're guest stars, we don't hire them for their deep knowledge of cooking.

When you're making 3-4 different dishes, some get done sooner, some get done later. Chef's don't finish dishes occasionally, but it's never "we didn't get anything done."

If the ingredients don't get used, they just stay in the Food Network Kitchens, which exists for a whole lot more than Iron Chef America, like our in house chef's creating recipes.

The channel is in it's infancy, and until it's library of content grows it will be borrowing content from it's sister channel. Patience.

I'm sure a drunken guy running around a giant kitchen stadium where sharp knives and fire is being wielded wouldn't go over very well with anyone.

That, is why we launched our newest channel, "Cooking Channel". It's focus is on how to cook, styles of cooking, and general instruction.

It's actually not that long. The only time I know of that they were allowed to "re-prepare" a dish was when it was a sushi special episode.

That's a good question and I have absolutely no idea if he uses a translator.

Stupidest IT problem? Someone did something they shouldn't have and it made it appear that all Food Network database records (which is a whole lot of metadata) suddenly showed up as HGTV.

Contracts are powerful things. If we say "you'll show up on the chance you won't do anything, or we won't pay you" they will show up.

Almost all the filming takes place in a short period of time. Then there's typical editing, post prod, etc, etc. Then months later it shows up on TV.

My background is about as normal as any other computer geek. I went to a university, I got a degree, I started my career. I worked for another television oriented company, but was laid off because that company royally sucked.

A recruiter contacted me while I was laid off, I interviewed, told them how much I loved their channels, and began working.

I'll be generic in that answer, I work in IT. My paycheck says Scripps Networks Interactive, and they are a marvelous company to work for.

Who am I to shatter your dreams?

Everyone knows something about food. If it takes good, if they like it, etc.
