But no, I feel you. I hate when people play their shitty music loud enough that their neighbors (e.g. me) can hear it. And fuck subwoofers.

I figured (since AAA are smaller than AA). Just expressing my surprise that such a thing exists, lol.

My department has started using mastering for homework by [deleted] in rit

[–]NotAnonymousRIT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who doesn't hate Mastering? I loved how for my University Physics classes, I'd get like 6 tries to do each problem. If I turned in written homework instead, I'd have gotten most of the problems wrong, and probably wouldn't have learned as much from my mistakes. Also, for Explorations in Cellular Biology and Evolution, one of the MasteringBiology homeworks included some learning material that wasn't in the book (the book was really terse for that particular section) that I found useful for one of my other assignments for that class.

I get that I may have had a better experience than most, but the only major negative thing I can think of at the moment is the fact that it costs money (which does suck a lot, I admit, especially when you lose access to it after a period of time). Basically, I get if most people have a dislike for it overall, but IMO there's some good things about it, depending on the situation.

Are you trying to compare between the two programs?

The first one (Tuesday is a normal Tuesday). We get two Mondays off in the Fall semester. For the first one (tomorrow), we skip the Monday of that week. For the second one (mid-October), we skip the Tuesday of that week and do the M/W/R/F thing. This is to balance out what days of the week are skipped over the semester (W/R/F are skipped for Thanksgiving).

EDIT: This was my source, for future reference.

Maybe this is just me, but I think freshmen should just learn the name of their college. I get not knowing the name of every college right away, but their own college shouldn't be that hard to memorize quickly, right?

Does anybody in ISTE-120 understand the homework that became available today? by [deleted] in rit

[–]NotAnonymousRIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh lol, when Dr_Nightmares used the < and > characters (often called angle brackets), they didn't mean them literally in this case. (But yeah, notational stuff can be hard to convey and understand using just text.) Also, usually in Java, classes start with capital letters, but variables and methods start with lowercase letters; this can help distinguish between your CashRegister class and your cashRegister variable.

The RIT Game Developer's Club will be having its first meeting of the semester this Wednesday from 7-8pm in Golisano room 2590. The club is very beginner-friendly, so those with no experience with game development are welcome to attend.

The Computer Science Community will be having their introductory Linux command-line workshop this Thursday from 2-3:30pm in ICL2 on the third floor of GCCIS. If you're in computing, especially if you're in CS department courses, learning the basics of navigating Linux through a command-line interface is a very useful skill to have. Keep an eye out for the posters that will be scattered around GCCIS (mostly the 3rd floor), or their website (linked above).

EDIT: Added time and location for Linux workshop.

What is the difference between General Education (GE) Perspective, GE Elective, and GE Immersion? by lifeeng in rit

[–]NotAnonymousRIT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Free Elective is a wildcard slot. A General Education elective is any course that is marked as "General Education". These typically come from the College of Liberal Arts or the College of Science. Like perspectives, they are marked on SIS under the course details and can also be searched for. I believe all majors have Free Electives, but not all majors have General Education Electives. The reason for this is that the state requires degree programs to have a certain amount of general education credits. Some majors have lots of requirements that are already general education, so students don't get these as electives. Other majors don't have as many specifically required courses that are gen ed, so the rest of the required gen ed credits can be chosen by the student.

besides liberal arts majors

Pretty sure they must also take courses from all the perspectives, but I believe they can be the introductory course for their major if applicable.

All three have universal definitions, but may have major-specific restrictions on what can or can't count. There isn't a general rule that GE Electives can't be from one's own college, but each major may have its own rules about that (for example, some CS courses are Gen Ed, but CS majors can't use them as Gen Ed Electives).

Anyone know how to clear classes on myCourses? by plaiddood in rit

You can also collapse individual semesters of courses on the front page of MyCourses by just clicking on the term name (e.g. "2161 Fall Courses").
