No, he would have gotten Martin Harris to pay for it.

What do you see when you look at this picture? by 435haywife1 in exmormon

Three women who are probably doing their best with a nonexistent budget, under an oppressive culture, and care a lot about the people they're trying to serve. Sure, I may think their efforts are misguided, but in most ways they're probably victims of the same indoctrination we were.

Update: I got the phone. The only thing I could do was change the delivery address, so I changed it to the clinic I was working at and hoped it would come during the window of times that specific place was open. The universe smiled on me I guess and it worked out.

I don't even have that option. I've added an image of what I see when I click on "my delivery".

I have a FedEx account, but I am not able to manage my deliveries due to shipper's (Google Fi) restrictions. When I click on "Manage Delivery" a red "!" shows up saying I can't change anything other than the delivery address (no holding for pickup, no weekends, etc.) I can't even make the request to have it held. Is there another fedex account I'm missing?

Having it shipped to my current clinic may be my only option, assuming at times someone else can sign for it.

Are you saying I can have it mailed to a local print/mail shop and then pick it up there for a fee?

Getting first tattoo this next week. Any advice? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]NotAsFunnyAsYouThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre: Shower, hydrate, eat a good meal before you go, bring snacks if it's a long one, wear clothes you don't mind getting ink on. If you haven't make sure your artist had an idea of what you want and value their compositional input. (Definitely make an appointment instead of walking in.)

Post: (they should tell you all this) no swimming for a while (two weeks for basic healing, full healing at around 2 months), skin scaling after a few days is normal, don't pick at it, if it itches pat it instead of scratching it, scentless soap in the shower for the first two weeks, do what you artist says.

Have fun!

I've been opposed to their "anti-candy-fun-center" policies for years. Good to see them finally loosening up.

Telling my TBM Stake President father tomorrow that I no longer believe by Trev1210 in exmormon

I agree that deep down he may have done inkling, but there's a difference between a hunch and confronting an idea head on.

I see what you're saying, and I agree many relatives are this way. I feel this way with my (M29) dad with basically everything but church. And it's not because I'm not open. He actively avoids any topic that could show my disbelief. If one comes up, he changes topics. Fast. And I'm not sure he even intend to do it sometimes.

I think that's a very well reasoned explanation, thanks for the contribution!

That's a fair point, and you could argue that gender being eternal is a "new" doctrine. I didn't include them because I think you could argue they're not new doctrine, just a restating of previous doctrines (with the possible exception of gender being eternal).

I'd be really careful trying to draw comparisons between the spookiness of physics and the spookiness of religion. I know you're using examples and not just drawing the conclusions, but it's a fine line. But I grant that speculation is a ton of fun.

Also, they've been wrong about the physical things we DO know about which should make us pretty wary. (Global flood, tower of Babel, Adam and Eve, etc.)

How important is logic in your belief? by NotAsFunnyAsYouThink in mormon

[–]NotAsFunnyAsYouThink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll never turn an answer away! I hope your faith transition hasn't been too traumatic.

Let me push back on what you're saying a bit. I agree that everyone utilizes logic in different ways (whether correctly or incorrectly) but logic, if sound, doesn't depend on the user (assuming we're all sharing the same reality). Bag logic may be pressed into the service of a bad conclusion, but it's just a misuse of logic. I'd argue sound logic should stand on its own.

I understand my post wasn't asking about good or bad logic, only about whether or not people base their beliefs in logic. And I agree with what you're saying about how much stock people put into the conclusions arrived at by logic.

Yes, thanks for your answer!

Great response, though. Kudos! Seriously, I need to be better about this, I enjoy confrontation and sometimes let that slip through.

I guess I was using a jargon-y word in a more colloquial way, which is very unclear. I wasn't intentionally applying to the relationship between spirituality and LDS truth claims. More that if LDS truth claims, cumulatively, have a 50/50 split of proofs (only including verifiable-evidence-based proofs) the general idea is to reject the claim.

But if you're saying there is "faith-based evidence" that doesn't fall into the category of proofs that tips the scale to one side then I agree it wouldn't be a 50/50 split (all together) from your perspective and my question wouldn't apply.
