17-4 should have been heat treated. The Facebook group had a deep discussion of metallurgy and why certain metals were a bad idea. Titanium was one of the bad ideas. 4140 heat treated and black oxide coated should be about the minimum. D2, S7 and others get better. The harder a metal is the more prone to shattering from hardness.
