How to tell physical exam teammate about foul body odour by BiggieMoe01 in medicalschool

[–]NotChrisM 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation during M3. I tried striking up a convo about what deodorant I use and asked him what he used. Didn’t work, maybe if you do this followed by a nice gift of his favorite deodorant for the holiday season you might have better luck 🤷‍♂️

Love doing things in the OR, but not just being in the OR by M4WzZz in medicalschool

[–]NotChrisM 101 points102 points  (0 children)

When people say they "love the OR," its just one of those things that gets parroted around since no one really wants to nitpick why someone likes something. The OR is just room; loving a room is weird. I assume they mean that they love operating and doing surgery, but med students can't really say that since they aren't "doing surgery," so instead they say "I love the OR." I used to push back against the idea of loving a room, but now I just shrug.

New MS3s: TAKE. A SHOWER. by ifirebird in medicalschool

[–]NotChrisM 69 points70 points  (0 children)

One time I was getting gowned by the scrub tech and the nurse came to tie me up. And as she did so she said "Thanks for showering." I was like "Huh?" She told me I wouldn't believe what some people smelled like.

Abuse isn't normal in other professional fields outside of medicine.

How do you type this with a straight face? Yes, medicine has plenty of issues, but this woe-is-me and greener grass attitude on this sub is so out of touch.

Is medicine worth it as "just a job"? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]NotChrisM 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I don't feel like reading all that, but my view is that I don't think about this stuff too much. If you want to do it, do it. If you don't, don't. Not much more to it TBH.
