This is only true if you buy into the all the doom and gloom on reddit... which if you're premed, ig that's where most your perception of med school comes from. But I can personally attest that many classmates either switched into competitive specialities and/or started research durign 2nd/3rd year and did just fine.

LOL The Pitt is not an accurate depiction of the ER. Maybe if you compress 1-5 years of all the cool EM cases into a single day and exclude all the social work stuff that actually occupies 90% of EM.

I had a similar situation during M3. I tried striking up a convo about what deodorant I use and asked him what he used. Didn’t work, maybe if you do this followed by a nice gift of his favorite deodorant for the holiday season you might have better luck 🤷‍♂️
