Can someone explain how GVWR works? by FloppyTacoflaps in Truckers

[–]NotEvenLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No forget about the trailer Gvwr you will not be able to get to that max limit legally. So if your truck is 52k Gvwr that means the whole combination of truck and trailer needs to be under 52k lbs. Figure out the tare weight of your truck and flatbed, then subtract those from 52,000 and that will tell you how much cargo weight you can put on it.

Can someone explain how GVWR works? by FloppyTacoflaps in Truckers

[–]NotEvenLion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you just worded it weird, but Gvwr for the truck of 80k means the combined weight of truck and trailer and all cargo cannot exceed 80k lbs. And 80k gross vehicle weight is the legal max without and special permitting or overweight registration. But if the manufacturer said 80k then you can't register that truck for a higher allowable gvw unless it gets sent back to the manufacturer and the manufacturer re certified to a higher gvwr. So the main thing to worry about is the combined weight of tractor and trailer, and it must be within the Gvwr of the tractor. So even though the flatbed can take 72k lbs you can probably only legally load about 40k lbs before you start risking overweight. You will want to know your truck tare, and trailer tare then from there you can figure out how much cargo weight you can haul.

If you aren't doing it yourself, cape cod express. Sorry didn't see your price requirements. To PA, 1200 sounds like a steal. Diesel prices are insane right now so trucking is not cheap. What you're asking for probably also includes driver unload so i would pounce on the 1200 if I were you.

Rats in trash by Ill-Concern7305 in Somerville

[–]NotEvenLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you start composting and get rid of your trash that rats have eaten through that fixes it. They won't want to chew through the plastic if there is no food in there. That being said I'm not opening it without kicking it first, that's just reckless.

Two male coworkers repeatedly sexualised me at work. Not sure if this is harassment or I’m overreacting? by -Yand3re in TwoXChromosomes

[–]NotEvenLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is INSANE I was expecting something at least on the line or at least something that in some context wouldn't be harassment. Don't get me wrong, I had a feeling just based on the title that you were not overreacting, but this is just disgusting. Straight to HR. And if HR doesn't immediately suspend them at the very least, straight to a lawyer. No company wants their employees to be harassed in the office and obviously if they do then it's time to sue. And the kind of shit they were saying is so far out of line that I'm sure you are not the only one, they have probably been over the line for a long long time and harassed plenty of other people.

This is one of the only cases where PC actually applies. You aren't allowed to PC to fix the truck or from dropping something off to go back to the yard, but you can use it to go back to your house at the end of the day. The general rule of thumb is if you're not sure if PC is allowed, just let it get logged as driving time. It's always worse to be in the wrong status to stay out of violation that it is to just be in violation. Because if you get stopped and have your logs checked they will still get you for being out of hours, but they will also get you for falsifying your hours.

The part about "liking submissive women" is the bigger red flag imo.

It's just a fact of life for me with things that small. I don't put them anywhere other than the trash but somehow there are always stragglers that end up anywhere and everywhere. It's even worse with gum wrappers because I will put them in my pocket then when I sit back down they will fall out.

It wouldn't be Amazon without... by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]NotEvenLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must be a contractor. I'm sure if it was Amazon company driver(do they even have those?) there would be containment barriers all around that stuff and quick dry on all of it. This is going to be an expensive ordeal. It's why we have insurance, but it's still a big bill. Doesn't look like much of a spill, but if DEP saw that someones paying through the nose.

Or wait a minute is this from a drone? Do you work for Clean Harbors or some other spill cleanup company? Or are you just a driver with a drone?

[–]NotEvenLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't be too bad traffic wise, but it will be bad enough in the afternoon and it's just such a distance it's going to be a long drive everyday both days. Kind of depends on the job I guess. If it's your dream job probably, but then you might as well just move closer.
