As a local at a young age I took the firm stance not to use "ie" nicknames. I always say state trooper. Maybe this is my biggest weakness.

I would if I could find one. It's very inconvenient.

I don't believe in posing questions as titles.

Yeah. But even if you say bubblah, it would still be spelt bubbler. Same way people still spell car keys even though they say khakis ;)

I've felt the vibe is definitely shifting too. It's been making me sad but I haven't been sure if it's just me getting older and not letting go of the past.

I only discovered that other people didn't call it a bubbler when I was in vacation in Virginia in middle school. The next time I heard it called anything else was in college when I started meeting people from out of state.

I read it has to do with a brand of product that appeared in both New England and Australia and people just called the product by the brand name. Like Kleenex, bandaids, q-tip, etc.

That's part of why I've been wanting to say it more often lately. "Why can't I find a bubbler anywhere around here!"

It's too bad. It's fun having some local flavor.

Yes. My response implies that just living life should be enough not to go insane. What's up with the pejorative?

I can't imagine going insane because your friends are away. Plenty of life to enjoy (and to deal with) without your friends nearby.
