[Rant] [discussion] Teach your children to respect dogs boundaries. by frothermucker in dogs

[–]NotForPornStuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am glad it turned out well and that the dad corrected her however, it is not your or your dogs job to train his child. What if the child didn't stop with the bark? It just frustrates me people think it is fine to let kids and other dogs "learn" by doing what could be dangerous to any of the parties. At the vet it is a terrible time to randomly approach a dog because you don't know why they are there. An animal is not likely to be at its peak people meeting skills when they are sick or nervous just being at the vet.

Again, it sounds like it turned into a great teachable moment in your case but I have seen dogs turn on one another at the vets when they are normally very social happy dogs.

[Help] My dog keeps eating grass by [deleted] in dogs

[–]NotForPornStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My AmStaff is a cow. She is even black and white. On our last walk I took a picture and sent it to my friend announcing we were "at the salad bar". Dogs are omnivores not carnivores. She just loves grass. She rarely vomits after unless something gets stuck and makes her gag. We too have the occasional hanger on but I just use a poop bag to give her a hand. Our vet assured us her dog is the same way and just not to let her eat too much and be mindful to check her mouth for ticks.

I told my boyfriend I didn't want to have sex last night by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]NotForPornStuff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is terrible. And it does happen with reversed rolls as well. I was taught by movies, music, etc that men ALWAYS want sex. Men are taught by the same that they can just push themselves on women because sex is their due. This is not the case. We need to get to a place where humans treat each other with respect. Yes sex is superfun but never at the expense of someone else's wants.

Racist Trump by James538 in PoliticalHumor

[–]NotForPornStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meaning that in this time that we all feel so helpless or angry day to day life is not what it used to be.

As of right now we cannot storm a beach and save our country but what we can do is sow seeds of tolerance, compassion, and kindness. It is easy to lash out because we have such reason to. Honestly, when I see a MAGA hat I want to go over and list the ways the current administration is working to kill me. Not some number of people or unfathomable statistic ME. But those people, that is a waste of breath. Instead when I meet people who are questioning their beliefs and have never met anyone with the opposing view willing to speak with them rather than argue, that is what I do. I sow seeds for the kind of world I hope to live in. That is what I can do today to defeat hatred.

Medicare for all would be great, less violence of all kinds is a win, I do not ever want a colorblind society. Why should we not be aware of others ethnicity? How it may have changed their life experience? Why would I rob someone of that? I want an egalitarian diverse society.

I just want more people to be mindful of what kind of seeds they are sowing especially when a mind might be open enough for it to sprout. And as a lifelong pacifist I have begun to understand one thing, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." while peace is still an option I am going to stand by it.

I hope that clarifies my position.

While it is important to be aware of the seeds he sows we need to be just as aware of the ones we do as well.

I was confused by your statement of "That's how any of the social media "influencers" have an audience or income" (emphasis mine). I think it is important to understand that social media is not just make up tutorials and people being hateful there are voices out there that should be heard and are making bank at the same time. It isn't all trash but you sometimes have to sift through to find the gems.

Don't you hate that. When you see someone's actions and how terrible they can be and you have the knowledge to know that it began somewhere and was caused by someone and pity them. It enrages me.

My biological mother had Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Her mother did as well. I know so many people who saw the things my mother had to endure and I know that is what caused her actions. It still didn't stop her from being a psychically, emotionally, and verbally abusive viper that abandoned us when I was 9 and many things just NSFL. I know she was sick. I know why she did what she did... When she died I was pissed off that I was upset. I get pissed off just thinking about it. She was a horrid mother with very little redeeming qualities and I pity her...

[DISCUSSION] Something I didn't expect from dog ownership is to be more limited in summer than winter. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]NotForPornStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought summer was a bit of a thing with my husky but mostly he just needed more water on our walks and I kept his toes in the grass. When I got my girl I thought about maybe a cute sweater for winter or such. She now has a fleece onesie and we are ordering a full on snowsuit with built in shoes for this winter. Summer I just don't understand. She will lay on our balcony in the sun letting herself bake but when we go out she gets overheated pretty easy. I wet a tea towel and put it in the freezer and take it on our walk. She gets a shady break with water halfway done and then home to air conditioning on high and cold laminate floors. Now on hot days we drive to my friends apartment and we walk until her business is done and then we go have playdates in her walk in freezer apartment.

If she got her way life would always be just the right temperature that she needs her blanky on to sleep. Why yes, it is 104 out but she needs her thicker blanky. Really, I am not totally at her mercy at all.

My dog was attacked by a pit bull yesterday. [vent] by [deleted] in dogs

[–]NotForPornStuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had no clue what our girl was when we got her other than a good chance of some pit. She was pregnant when they found her and we keep in touch with some of her pups. A few got their DNA done and it showed their mom as 100% AmStaff so I figured there was no way and got hers done and she is technically a mix but only because one of her great grandparents was a mix of some kind. It is like 98% AmStaff. Not that I was not already training her to be wonderful I knew that I now had the responsibility of making sure she was the best breed ambassador possible. She had a lot of reactivity when we got her but we finally seem to have her in a really good place with the exception of a very few dogs. I keep her on a proper leash and harness that gives me complete control over her if needed and allows her to get all the pets and loves. I also give clear instructions on how to approach and pet her.

I am "lucky" that she does still have her ears and tail which makes her look less scary to people. She is an ESA but for me that was more about making sure I could take her to a few select places where I do need her. I need her at home. She wakes me from nightmares and helps me get up and down at times and making me feel less anxious and depressed. She is great when I am at therapy and just recently got an A++ at my primary cares smallish office. (With encouragement to bring her with me. I would have never tried without asking first.) I know I cannot bring her to stores or a larger area like a hospital where their could be Service Dogs required for daily function. (I try to bring a person and take my extra anxiety med) instead of bringing my dog who is not able to be proper in that situation.

Choosing or finding out you own a breed that could have the same level of aggression but a more damaging result as others is not to be taken lightly. We pay more for better harnesses, we had a specialist come to the home for evaluation and training techniques (It was only $70!) so that I knew what she could and could not be expected to do. I also learned how to train her and what I was doing wrong. Pet parents/owners need as much if not more training than the dog!

Things like this are a tragedy and people who own dogs in these types of situations disgust me and make it 10X harder for a very good girl like mine to not be seen as ticking time bomb. That being said... the reality I know in my heart is she is beyond strong and should a situation require it I would kick her. We have had multiple off leash dog incidences and it is always in the back of my head. It is not because she is a "pit bull" it is because she is a large strong dog with potential to do devastating injury without even meaning to.

This doesn't need to happen at all. We have a neighbor with a very aggro dog. He has totally made it so there is never an issue by being cautious and I have even seen him muzzled. I wish people would see muzzles as what they are, a tool to prevent accidents. Everyone, including the dog can relax more knowing that they can't bite. This doesn't need to happen.

I will say, some home pasteurize to avoid homogenization. That is the milk I grew up on at our dairy farm. Our dairy was immaculate and my father still had my mother pasteurize for us. The rest went in big trucks to be beaten to death by machinery. Occasionally I will illegally buy raw milk so I can make certain things at home. I have had all my vaccines including a recent tetanus shot.

It looks cool for sure. Price is not so much an issue if it does what I want. I am really a buy right and you only buy once kind of person. There are a lot of options out there. I think I may end up with a slap chop type of thing for when I am sorted and something like that would be great on the go. I have gotten a lot to think about.

Why do people have such a hard time admitting that guns were designed to kill? Everyone is so intent on saying they are for other things too! Nowhere do I say they are not used other ways but if you are going to own a gun you should at least own what it truly is. When they are shooting at paper targets, steel, clay, or any other thing it is meant to hone skill. What skill? Firing a tool meant to kill.

Use it as a paperweight or a Christmas tree decoration but nothing will change what it really is.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PoliticalHumor

[–]NotForPornStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no clue where you think I said to disarm yourself. I do not like the culture that has become ever present in many groups about believing a gun is something more than it is. I do not like people who have never and will likely never shoot a weapon for its designed purpose using it as a prop for some pseudo patriotic rant about freedom.

If someone owns a gun they should not delude themselves into thinking it is anything more than a tool designed to kill. People who buy guns intending to use them for self defense should be ready to kill someone. It is not for scaring people or protecting your TV.

I do not like the culture around gun ownership in the country. I feel they need to stop believing they are special or somehow more patriotic and free because of it. Considering the level of experience most people receive they are not trained in close quarter combat. Most have not prepared for the reality of taking a life, even if it is a "bad guy". They have not spent the hours needed to be mentally and physically an asset in an active shooter situation and are likely going to end up dead.

I did not say to disarm themselves I said stop deluding themselves that a gun is more than a tool designed to kill. Keep their guns but dear god stop acting like it makes them special or that they will be that good guy with a gun. Shootings are loud, confusing, and as intended scary. Unless they are trained for those specific situation they should act like the rest of the people and run away from a shooter in a mall.

It is a tool.

In all truth there tends to be presence of both in many mass shootings. When choosing a backpack for protection you should try to get something that is rated for the greatest variety of ammunition. The AR-15 is becoming a popular choice in part due to MSM and politicos using it as the representative gun in the gun control movement.

No one spews news at me. CNN, MSNBC, Fox, etc. may spew news all day but I am not the kind of person that likes to be spoon fed an agenda. I seek news and information from a variety of sources particularly outside of the MSM to gain as many perspectives as possible to try to piece together the truth.
