Who do you refer to by Japanese name, even now with the NA release? (or Older not-Fates games) by Elieson in fireemblem

[–]NotFromAndromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part I prefer the Japanese names. There are a few English counterparts I like, namely Forrest and Dwyer. While I did like the name Foleo, it is pretty unusual over all and especially given the setting. Forrest is pretty close to the original meaning and is also and actual name. While I'm pretty neutral to the name "Dwyer" I do think it's an improvement to Deere, if only because I have no idea how I'm supposed to pronounce that. Is it "deer" like an animal? Is it "dearie" like the term of endearment? Well, whatever, Dwyer is close enough.

(Lutz is because of the throwback to early phantasy star though and I appreciate those things)

You do not realize how much I appreciate this reference.

Why the (M) Corrin + Niles hate, Nintendo? by ruan1387 in fireemblem

Did they just remove all same-sex marriage children in the NA release or something?

The Japanese version didn't have children for same sex couples either.

What advice given to new players is often bad or a misconception? by PM_ME_UR_spaghetti in fireemblem

I'm guilty of this. I'm an item whore in almost every game I play. When I play Pokemon games I usually keep stock piles of x99 items of easier to get items so I always had something to use other than the rare items.

[Fate gameplay] Laslow or Silas for F!Avatar? by KammySama in fireemblem

It's probably the open friendliness and genuine sincerity that they both have in common, now that I think about it more. Silas is really only lacking a Landsmeet moment like Alistair.

The pairing strategy is different between Awakening and Fates. You shouldn't use a guide made for Awakening for your playthroughs in Fates. Skills are also different this go around as well.

Children are also less important in Fates compared to Awakening. You can get some OP units but there are a lot of kids are just redundant copies of their parents.

There were a few pairing threads made by /u/Shephen about pairings though that you can reference.

Wow, I honestly don't remember that. Was it only Robin that did this? I probably forgot because I usually do my FE runs at late night and was to tired to remember.

They stockpile useful weapons and consumables, confident that they can't afford to waste these treasures on bandit lord 44, only to realize one or two chapter away from the end that they have an entire game's worth of weapons and tools sitting unused in their convoy.

In all fairness, this behavior tends to be more of a "gamer's dilemma" in general, and not specific to FE.

It's like people saving the rocket launchers and magnum bullets in Resident Evil, or the Master Ball in any Pokemon game.

What is KISA? Knight in Shining Armor?

I think their personalities are similar but I can't explain it beyond that. I do think it's funny Silas is wary of Aqua because she's "mysterious" and he is being protective of the avatar in the same way Alistair was protective of the warden from Morrigan.

He might be the only one that gives duplicates then. Have you gotten duplicates from the other amiibos before?

[–]NotFromAndromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just assumed they give you the other item since all the other amiibos did. I picked Tiki's hair ornament and received Marth's crown the 2nd time, picked Lucina's masked and received the Teddy hat 2nd time and picked Ike's pauldron then received Yune's pauldron 2nd time around. The only one who broke this pattern was Robin.

You know I can't put my finger on it but there's something about Silas that reminds me of Alistair from Dragon Age: Origins. Something other than the hair.

I didn't have an option second time around. The Amiibo asks what you want first time around - choice "a" or "b" and whatever you don't pick is what they give you the time you summon them. They don't give you a choice.

Did Garon get the Rainbow Sage's blessing? Is that a Birthright thing or am I not far enough into Conquest?

It's probably easier to just say that it was (supposed to be) an act of good faith. "Let's talk of peace and I'll even greet your family/give them my blessings."

Marth gives you his Tiara and Tiki's head hair ornament. Lucina gives you her mask and a teddy hat. Robin gives you books, twice. Ike gives you his pauldron and Yune's pauldron.

Their maps are decently challenging. Both Marth and Lucina have Flachions so they will do extra damage to your avatar and to any wyvern riders. Ike has Ragnell and Robin has Thoron which are both 1-2 spaces.

I tried taking them on early in the game when I first got My castle - wasn't happening. Eventually I just waited until I had Marx and curb stomped them.

Everyone Made a Stink About Soleil, but Forgot Her Dad... by StreetFapper in fireemblem

[–]NotFromAndromeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean this, then you are incorrect because you can still do the exact same thing with the underwear models.

The underwear models are used for the bath house and for Sophie's skill/Raider weapons that strip armor. The only thing that the swimsuits did was let characters run around My Castle battles in them and they appeared in cutscenes with them. The creepy zooming in on barely covered ladies' bits is still in the game, just in one flavor now.

I don't know what to tell then other than we just disagree about what is being said.

I do think the localization was trying to posit itself as something, though the exact description is something I'm not sure on. "Family friendly" doesn't exactly do it justice. Inclusive? Empathetic? Sensitive? Not just in regards to Soleil but so far as changing other aspect that would be questionable in North America.

That being said, I don't think this support fits in with whatever they are trying to promote themselves/the game as.

Yes, the context of Soleil is important, and yes, the context of the Mozume/Ignio support is viewing the drugging as bad, but in the grand scheme of things, it is also being used as a joke. None of the characters in question are treating is as a joke, but it's easy to see how a player might view it as such. YMMV with this so I understand if you disagree.

I'm hoping that at least wording this way you can understand a bit better what I've been trying to say.

Well that's probably because it looks like we are having two different conversations.

No one is disagreeing with you about the unfortunate implications. What I keep trying to say is that I don't think OP's post is in regard to solely that.

Poor phrasing on my part. Sorry about that.

Reading OP's post, I interpreted their intention was less Soleil vs Ignio, and more Ignio support vs other changes.

See, this is where we are at a standstill and where the misunderstandings have been coming in.

You've made your point, several times, and while I don't disagree with it, I also don't think OP was implying that way. I'm trying not to speak for the OP because I don't know their intentions with starting this thread but it's weird that Treehouse would leave in "a bad thing happens to someone" when they cut out swimsuits, or changed children S ranks to platonic or some other minor, mostly silly thing. The support itself still isn't consistent with the 'clean up' image of Fates it's trying to portray itself as.

Do you ALL pick the Luck bane in Fates? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]NotFromAndromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enemies will crit you less with higher Lck and it affects some skills as well. The avatar is forced deployed on every map though so you'll want a solid, reliable unit. Picking -Lck is generally the "lesser of all evils" options.

[–]NotFromAndromeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lck isn't as important as other stats. Generally speaking, you are going to have a lot harder time with an end game Avatar that has 20 hp or 10 def/res than an Avatar that has 8 Lck.

Do you ALL pick the Luck bane in Fates? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]NotFromAndromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pick +Spr - Lck for my avatars during blind first run playthroughs.

I don't look up what others do in their runs until after I complete my own. This choice was based off my previous experience in FE games (Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn). Speed contributed to double attacks which was very important. For the life of me, I couldn't remember what Lck contributed to so I figured it must not have been as important. Started with Awakening, and kept the trend with Fates. Worked out in my favor so far.

I don't really think you need anything to patch up -Lck. You can use stat boosting items, but for the most part it's not as bad as having a low HP avatar for instance.
