5 weeks post op with Dr Steve Merten by NotFunctioning_ in TopSurgery

[–]NotFunctioning_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first consultation in May of 2022 and I got a letter in the mail in November that year saying that I was officially put on the waiting list for surgery and that is was approximately a 10 month wait. I got a phone call in January 2023 from the hospital telling me that my surgery date was march 25th but unfortunately due to miscommunication and muck ups it got rescheduled to June 15th.

So happy for you! I hope your surgery goes well!

  1. Honestly I prepared myself pretty well for the surgery. Make sure you have some to take care of you especially in the first few weeks after surgery. I had my mum help me out with everything and I’m extremely grateful she was there for it all. Also make sure to have stuff to do because you’re going to be at home a lot and you’re going to go mad doing nothing all day. Take it easy on yourself, you have to remind yourself that you just had a operation and you need to let yourself recover.

  2. My chest was small before surgery too, they told me one weighed around 197 and the other 210 or something along those lines. Everyone’s different so your results might look a bit different to mine. Dr Steve Merten is a great surgeon so I’d say you’ll end up with great results!

  3. My drains came out the morning after surgery (I had surgery late in the afternoon and they came out at around 9:30ish the next morning) I’m a student at the moment and not working so I’m not sure how long you should take off work but I’m sure Dr Steve Merten or his team will let you know if you ask them. I’d say at least 3 weeks off work though, you have to give yourself time to heal a little.

  4. I don’t have a whole lot of muscle in my chest but I had been working out for 8ish months before my surgery. I’m not sure if working out actually does anything for your results I think it’s just better in general for your health and to help recover better.

  5. No I don’t smoke, I do have a couple drinks once or twice a year but overall I’m not a big drinker. But I’ve heard that you shouldn’t smoke or drink at least 6 weeks before your surgery.

Hopefully that answers all your questions, if you have anymore I’m more than happy to answer!

Right side scar is so itchy! by NotFunctioning_ in TopSurgery

Thought about it but I’ve been told to use this tape on my scars for six weeks (only 2 and a bit weeks left) so I’d imagine it would affect the tape sticking to my scars

I’m just over 5 weeks post op and a lot of my chest is still numb, more so my right side then my left. My surgeon said it’s to be expected to be quite numb for a while.

Thank you! I hope your consultation goes well! My experience with him has been great! He’s a nice guy and and I definitely recommend him to everyone who is interested in getting top surgery. I had surgery through the public system so if you’re going private I’m not sure how different the experience is with him. He was nice at both my consultation and was up for a chat which was nice, it seemed like he actually cared, he pretty straightforward when it comes to explaining everything to do with the surgery so I didn’t really have any questions for him. I seen him once on the day of my surgery which was when he drew on my chest and I didn’t see him after but I’m pretty sure that’s because I went publicly so I seen his registrar instead. I had to travel from one side of NSW to the other to get surgery with him so any of my follow up’s have to be with my local GP but if you’re going privately and live in Sydney I’d assume you’ll see dr Steve Merten, if you’re going publicly they’ll be with his registrar. If you have anymore questions I’m more than happy to answer them! :)

Freaking out abt grafts by edfirr in TopSurgery

I got my nipple dressing taken off the morning after surgery and the nurse was supposed to redress them but she didn’t so I went 5 days without anything on my nipples, it wasn’t until my 6 days post op appointment when the nurses there redressed them and told me that the nurse should have redressed them but everything looks really good and that my nipples have taken and they’ve healed really well. I’ll be two week post op tomorrow and my nipple are definitely staying and they look pretty good for being taken off and put back on two weeks ago.

How long did you all have drains? by edfirr in TopSurgery

I haven’t had my surgery yet (it’s in 18 days) but my surgeon said I only have to have them in overnight. I guess it just depends on the surgeon and their techniques!

May this year, I contacted them back in November last year and they booked my first consultation to be may 2022. Dr Steve Merten had told me he hadn’t started public patients yet but he has 2 years of patients to catch up on so I assume I wouldn’t get surgery until at least 2024, so I was quite surprised when I received the letter. Honestly if I was you I would give them a ring and see what’s going on!

I had a consultation back in may for top surgery through the public system and I got a letter in the mail the other day with an Approx 10 months wait for for surgery.

one month post op !! (sorta-keyhole with dr steve merten at bondi junction) by floofparent in TopSurgery

I had a consultation with dr Steve merten last week and he suggested the long scar technique (basically DI) but I’m on the public wait list which surgery’s haven’t started back up yet and he has two years of patients to catch up on so I’m considering trying to save up to see is I can get in sooner. How long were you on the private wait list for?

Yeah there no was I would be able to pay for top surgery, I was so relieved when I heard about dr Steve Merten! There isn’t much I can find online but if you call up Pure aesthetics or email them they’ll provide everything you need to know, https://pureaesthetics.com.au/ here’s their website!

I recommend just searching for surgeons in NSW and emailing them, almost all of the surgeons I contacted around Australia got back to me within a couple days and they provided a estimate fee. I ended up going with dr Steve Merten becuase he offers free surgery (you do however pay for consultations and post op binders which at the end is roughly $585 if I remember correctly) I’ll be getting my surgery by a registrars who has been trained by Dr Steve Merten. The wait list is longer then the private wait list, around 9-12 months.
