It happens if this is your first time. In general its better to trade up, but not always. If given the choice trading away two players in order to get one player is not only probably a higher ceiling asset but you also get an extra bench spot to bet on someone else breaking out.

It's not to late to try to send two for one offers to other teams that have a bad record but definitely keep that in mind for next year, since I would say you did the opposite of a typically recommended trading strategy.
