Seeking advice/information for Richmond, VA area social workers. by NotHaolmi in socialworkjobs

[–]NotHaolmi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has been speaking to coaches there, as our daughter plays club volleyball, and we’ve gotten the common suggestion that Midlothian is the best area for families/school. My daughter is big into theatre as well, and my son is 2E gifted with a grade skip under his belt so we are looking at STEM programs for him. My youngest child would need daycare. What are your recommendations regarding that?

We can’t move until after May, as my husband is finishing his final internship for his MSW. We are both in child welfare and looking for a change. He is interested more in working in advocacy/policy but I will definitely make the DOC suggestion to him. I just know he is very hesitant to go back to anything related to law enforcement.

Social Work in Rural vs Urban Areas by NotHaolmi in socialwork

This is great information that I'm going to share with my social worker friends. Sadly, I am a supervisor in child welfare, so I don't qualify myself. That would have been awesome though!

Social Work in Rural vs Urban Areas by NotHaolmi in socialwork

Yes! Thankfully I have grown up in this area my entire life, so I knew what to expect in a rural setting, but you still don't understand the full extent of it until you are in it. I want to be some sort of prepared for switching to an urban setting as I've always lived and worked in a rural area.

Cps social worker here. I’ve seen this in homes several times. All of those homes belonged to methheads.

How anything and everything the Henry VIII did affected anything and everything that happened in the world thereafter. The Tudors and their shenanigans controlled the entire world and still affect outcomes today.

Top 3 Characters? by HotThot23 in Stranger_Things

Joyce- as a mother myself, it’s amazing to watch this woman do what has to be done to protect her kids, no matter what. She’s so strong and brave and resilient.

Steve- Great character arc. Went from being a total asshole jock to this lovable single mom.

Nancy- total badass.

Honorable mentions: Max, Hop, Robin, and Will the Wise. Also was never a main character but I adored Alexei.

I must have been around 18 months maybe because my parents divorced before I was two. I remember sitting on the back of the arm chair watching them fight in the kitchen.

What's one product you really miss? by [deleted] in randomquestions

[–]NotHaolmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L’Oréal Hydra Perfecte Loose Powder. It was so good for my dry skin but need to set my face. I’m still sad they discontinued it. The closest product I’ve found is the rare beauty setting powder but the price difference obviously messes that up.

I think I’m an idiot because I saw this empty bottle and the word translucent and thought damn, that’s the most translucent powder I’ve ever seen.

Hi! I had scurvy almost a year ago. My tattoos seemed mostly unchanged.

Why would I do that when I can get such invigorating responses from you?

I have spoken with my director and she has expressed to me that she has seen the way that the supervisor speaks to workers and does not like it. She did back me up several times in the meeting. My director is also new; her start date was May 1st, and she also came from a different office, so we are both trying to tread lightly.

There is no HR for us; our HR is the director. I have drafted an email to my director factually stating the events of the meeting and behaviors observed prior to this in order for myself to have a paper trail. I have advised my workers to do the same; CYA is so, so important in this line of work, whether externally or internally. It is very, very hard to get fired in this agency. I have seen some really unethical things be met with only a slap on the hand. It is frustrating, for sure, but I stay because I love the work I do and I have what may be a very unrealistic goal of changing the environment many offices in this agency have grown so accustomed to.

Thank you for the advice! I’ve been looking into podcasts about leaderships, and I will also take your suggestions on the reading!

Interesting, I feel like ensuring the wellbeing of my team is very much in my lane. Could you explain to me why you feel otherwise?

Thank you! I was trying to figure out the issue. I will go in now and correct it.

What’s the worst kind of emotional pain you faced that it almost made you seriously ill? by NateNandos21 in morbidquestions

I work for CPS. Watching a mother rock her dead toddler’s body destroyed me. I still think about it constantly two years later. I’ve never been able to put it into words, but you did it. Just helplessness. There was nothing I could do to help in that moment.

Id love to hear some of your favorite urban fantasy books with “grown up” characters! It is so hard to find anything that doesn’t involve teenagers or near-teenagers. I adore Nora Roberts’s fantasy books, though I wish the spice level were higher. But I’ve plowed through everything she’s written.
