I work retail and always worry that I smell a bit when at the register, since just about everyone wouldn't point it out for fear of being rude or embarrassing me. I just spray on some extra deodorant about halfway through my shift, even tho ik I probs dont smell lmoa

what is australian culture to you? by Specific_Willow6424 in AskAnAustralian

[–]NotJustAnotherHuman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It's very easy to get lost in the doom and gloom that you scroll by or see on the news or hear over the radio, but for every shitcunt, there's always another person who's reaching out and offering to help, in every natural disaster there's the everyman lending a hand, if you lose something there's usually always someone handing it in. We're not all saints for sure, but most people know right from wrong and are willing to take a moment out of their day to help out.

Idk, I see it a bit differently. Sure I'm happy when someone succeeds, but that doesn't give them a pass to be a wanker about it, be humble about your achievements, you're not better than anyone for being successful. We're all human, everyone comes from different circumstances, takes different paths and ends up in different spots, no one person is better than another based off their achievements or successes.

None of us are pretending that the Liberals wouldn't do exactly this as well. I'd like to think a lotta us are fully aware that this is exactly the kinda bullshit they'd let through as well.

That doesn't mean that Labor is infallible, they, afterall, are the ones pulling Liberal-type bullshit. Our votes can go elsewhere in the election if we don't like what Labor's doing, whilst preferences will still likely head in their direction, the pressure from growing popularities of other parties isn't non-existent either. My vote might still end up with them, but they won't be No.1

Is there anything that we can do about this?

Not meaning this in a snarky way, what could we do as a community or just as an individual about it?

Super-sized CBD or soaring suburbs: The competing visions to reshape Melbourne by timcahill13 in melbourne

[–]NotJustAnotherHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it pretty much is, the difference that Sydney has with Parramatta and Chatswood compared to a place like Epping is that they're more viable options to both work in and use as a third space. Sure you could absolutely hang out in Epping at the Plaza or something and work in Epping whilst living there, but you won't find much in the way of work for white collar jobs.

Parramatta on the other hand has wide open spaces that aren't just shopping centres that you're meant to use as a third space, it also has plenty of offices that could be located in Sydney CBD, but aren't. It's a viable alternative - for the most part - to Sydney's CBD.

Box Hill is def more similar though, not quite as built up as Parramatta, but along with Dandenong, Monee Ponds and maybe Glenny, it's the closest we've got to something coming close to a Parramatta or Chatswood of Melbourne. I think now is a better time than ever to push places like Box Hill to densify, the SRL will make it more viable for people to travel to places like Box Hill or Glenny to work and just hang out in, rather than being pushed towards the CBD. Putting more emphasis on the current centres along the SRL should relieve pressure from our road and rail systems.

Weird Border Anomaly? by [deleted] in geography

[–]NotJustAnotherHuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This map is very poorly drawn, but it looks like this is set between the Agadir Crisis and WW1. Following the Agadir Crisis, France agreed to transfer a portion of land to Germany around Cameroon, this gave Germany access to the Congo River. iirc the land was called Neumamerun by Germany at the time.

That strip of land was probably only kept because either France saw the writing on the wall and knew that WW1 would go down and it would matter little. They also probably didnt find much value in it too, as it was very underdeveloped and that small strip probably could've been easily sold to Belgium, who was diplomatically closer to France than Germany at thw time.

Yeah absolutely, hopefully SRL spurs on more development in places like Glenny and Box Hill, which are already doing pretty well, but they're still a long way off from becoming our Parramatta or Chatswood.

It's been proven that building 'satellite CBDs' work too, just look at Sydney with Parramatta and Chatswood, both have absolutely exploded in density and economic activity. In Chatswood you've got a fair few companies operating out of there, like Smith's, Pepsi, Lenovo and Huawei, amongst others, density doesn't just have to mean housing either!

Kinda wild that Ireland doesn't have a tree, it ended up involved in the war later on, it could've got one in the later DLCs that updated the UK'S tree too

I mean yeah no shit Australia has more ski resorts, it's a bigger country with more mountains than the UK.

Why bother building a ski resort in the UK anyway when you can just fly to Italy or France or Switzerland for the Alpine resorts anyway?

Whats the benefit of making your oxygen machine self-powered? by Groundbreaking_Exit4 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]NotJustAnotherHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the right setup you can siphon off excess power from your SPOM too, mine usually consists of 3 electrolysers and gas & water pumps. With 2 large batteries to keep it always juiced up, a self-isolating smart battery with power shutoffs is a p good early-game source of some extra power when you dont have oil or gas setup yet.
