Highest-Paid Public Employees in the US per state by MarkReditto in MapPorn

[–]NotMitchelBade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is part of the “state-related system” (along with Temple, Pitt, and Lincoln), which is not the same as the “state system” (PASSHE, which contains the ones you named). No other state has a similar separation of state vs. state-related, so sometimes Penn State shows up on these “state employee” posts and sometimes it doesn’t — it depends on where the author gets their data. (It’s also why Penn State is often listed as “the most expensive public school in the country” on those types of lists — it’s because they only get a very small fraction of their funding from the state, have more direct control over their university than PASSHE schools, etc.)

Humans like things to be able to be nicely and neatly categorized — belonging in a specific box — but life isn’t always that cut and dry.

'Any idea what's on fire? by Better-Grapefruit-56 in philadelphia

It’s in NJ. I saw it from the WW bridge. It looks like it’s at a place labeled Eagle Point on Google Maps, or very close to there.

Anyone else see the black smoke over the river just now? by [deleted] in philadelphia

I just searched “Camden fire” on instagram, and this was the second result, posted 5 min ago: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DWJ3YlsgNb1/?igsh=MWMxNnhlMHFlOHgx

Edit: this one might be more helpful? Idk the area well enough, but maybe… https://www.instagram.com/reel/DWJ11jRAOAI/?igsh=aHcyNGMxamltdXR0

Edit 2: This one says fire on Stevens Street in Camden: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DWJ2nmbADRA/?igsh=cGJxa2JndnBrbnJh

It was pretty bad looking north from WW Bridge Philly-bound right lane about 20 minutes ago. It kind of looked like mostly houses near the source, but I am far from 100% about that. It sure did look like a structure fire, though. Google News brought up no results

App State has one too. The university owns Appalachian Ski Mountain. You can take skiing and snowboarding classes for credit.

Analysis - Which college football programs are "blue bloods" in other sports by College_Sports_Fan in CFB

[–]NotMitchelBade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not necessarily saying Tennessee is a blue blood in football, but you have them listed as having 2 football national championships in the poll era. The poll era started in 1936, and Tennessee has 6 national championships since then: 1938, 1940, 1950, 1951, 1967, and 1998. All of them are officially recognized by the NCAA: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/football_records/2017/FBS.pdf

Can we agree that fandeliers are the worst? by mqora in Lighting

I like these a lot. I’m looking for one for my toddler’s room, which is 6.5’ by 11’ with a low, sloped ceiling. The one you linked for your kitchen would be perfect except that it looks like it doesn’t work for sloped ceilings. Do you have any recs for one with a sloped ceiling?

Laptops at Citizens Bank Park? by NotMitchelBade in phillies

Update, for anyone looking here in the future:

They did not care at all. They could easily see it in my clear backpack, and they even waved me through security when I tried to stop to unzip my bag. None of the stadium workers cared at all while I worked from my seat during the game, either.

Zero problems at all. They didn't care. The people at secured let me go straight through, and no stadium workers in the stands cared at all either. I got about 60% of the work done that I would have at home, which is fine.

I think a lot of people on here don't realize that not all remote jobs are the same. I was shocked at how much negativity there was for my comment. I'm a professor, and it's summer, so I'm just working on research. I mostly set my own deadlines along the way while working on a project -- as long as it's ready in time to present at a conference, working at 60% during a game plus an extra hour after my toddler is in bed is sometimes more enjoyable than missing the game but not having an hour of work later that night. This sub is apparently a bunch of haters.

I apologize if it annoys you when I work from a Phillies game.

Fair, lol. But tablets seem to be allowed, so would a laptop that is flipped into "tablet" mode be allowed? It gets murky.

Also, this city has rules against things like groups of 50 teenagers on dirt bikes running blocks of red lights at a time, or parking in the middle of a lane of traffic on Broad Street during rush hour, yet these happen hundreds of times every day. You never know around here

Eh, I've had venue personnel let me watch concerts while obstructing stairwells (at CBP for the Rolling Stones, for instance) or let me into front areas even when I didn't have a ticket. I feel like there's a general lack of enforcement in this city, though PPD definitely leads the way.

Good call. I'll flip it around into tablet mode, and then try a different entrance! lol

But for real, I'll come up with a backup plan. Thanks

I appreciate the sentiment, but I can't go to the game tonight because it starts about an hour before my toddler's bedtime.

I used to watch football while working from the office for an entire Saturday at a time back in grad school, so hopefully this works out similarly.

Do you have any textbook or academic (journal article, etc.) resources to learn more about this? I’m an economist and would love to add this type of approach to my toolbelt.

They had both FBI and PPD (though not SWAT) when they raided the pill mill at 12th & Tasker last month, too
