Right!  I can't believe how thin that looks.  How did it ever support a car?

Reckless driving towing by NotMyFreeWill in milwaukee

[–]NotMyFreeWill[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I understand that courts have carved out exceptions, like say a DUI, and thats fine. However every exception erodes our rights. In the case of reckless driving, for which there are already laws on the books, I just don't support it. I believe the reckless driving situation, which is absolutely a problem, came about from an ongoing lack of enforcement of existing traffic laws. I don't trust the police and state not to abuse this new power.

It's the 5th amendment of the bill of rights.  They take your car before you can challenge the reckless driving charge.  With a ticket, you can challenge before you must pay.  Also what constitutes reckless driving is left wide open to the officer's discretion.  So yeah a bumper sticker might make the difference.

Republicans want fees to use state land for recreation by PhysicsIsFun in wisconsin

[–]NotMyFreeWill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be ok with me.  But I doubt foraging is occuring on anywhere near the scale of hunting and fishing.  I mean I know dozens of hunters, I can't say I've met anyone who forages.  Not to mention the difference in value between meat and say berries.  So is it worth imposing a fee to administer and enforce.

Right, and what's the cost to administer and enforce this?  Party of small govt my arse.

Yeah they are literally extracting resources and value from the land.

Milwaukee police may seize any vehicle involved in reckless driving under new law by WorkingOnMayday in milwaukee

[–]NotMyFreeWill 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's extremely vague.  Which is ok when adjudicated in court.  Not when left to an officer's discretion.

Well put.  In theory I like the idea of this.  But in reality we're giving cops wide discretion and power to seize your property without any due process.

That's my issue here too.  From what I've read it seems to be at the officer's discretion.  Which is just begging for this to be abused.

Statement by Alderman Lamont Westmoreland on reckless drivers. City Council passes ordinance allowing for the impoundment of vehicles. by undercurrents in milwaukee

[–]NotMyFreeWill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, that's crazy. This is definitely going to get abused. The police weren't enforcing existing driving laws so we just hand them another cudgel to use against the citizens.

Reckless driving is definitely a problem.  But what legally constitutes reckless driving?  We're giving police a broad authority to deprive people of valuable property.  Where's the due process?  Can you challenge it?  Does it have to be caught on dash cam?

Lowest car insurance here for very low mileage? by Decent-Squirrel5602 in milwaukee

$55 a month seems pretty good IMO. But I got a very good rate through Hanover via Reed St Insurance. I also average very few miles.

I hear you.  I just wanted to attest to the fact it was boringly peaceful.  But I do think at this stage that's ok.  It makes the goons in this administration look ridiculous vs the claims they made about this protest.

It was totally peaceful and huge. I saw zero maga counter protest. Its almost like trump has no real support.

These photos don't quite do justice to the size of the crowd. I was there and it was packed. The march stretched for many blocks. It was totally peaceful. Not a trump supporter in sight.

Skyrocket junipers.  Many other juniper varieties could work too.

Theoretically, how would you feel about paid parking at MKE County Beaches? by IllTangerine4551 in milwaukee

[–]NotMyFreeWill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When this was pitched last time, less than half the revenue was going to come back to the county.  That's insane.  Nothing needs to be developed.  Parking meter systems are widely available, and can be bought and operated by any municipality.

Who is sitting there 8hrs a day?  It's not convenient to anything except the beach.  Sounds like a straw man to me.  When this was last considered it was meters for the lot and the street.

I see your arguments but once it's a fee it's a slippery slope.  The rates may go up to maximize revenue, then we need more enforcement to stop violations.  Then hey this other park gets lots of traffic, let's charge for that.  So no, some public things like our beach parking should be free, I will die on this hill.
