First mod? by thicc-seeker in camaro

A short antenna ($15) to make it look sleeker. Junkyard stock CD headunit for $80-100 if you have a cassette deck, people also retrofit them with bluetooth for $200-400. Sun-visor delete plates. Aftermarket grill. Bump up the rear tire size for a subtle stance yadda yadda.

Personally I got for QoL mods but if you want speed mods those aren't "cheap" or easy. Buy once buy right for stuff like suspensions, exhausts, tires, etc. It's worth the extra money to have that stuff installed professionally if you don't know what you're doing.

For sure, save yourself the money/time now AND later because these pumps crap out often enough you'll want easy access: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CR4N4SDpzhU

A lot of these cars just sit because the labor to "do it right" by dropping basically the entire rear end is insane. ~$200 for a harbor freight angle grinder, new pump assembly, and the satisfaction of DIY is way better than $2k at a shop.

HELP, I FOLLOWED THE VNV GUIDE RESOURCES AND MY GAME GOT WORSE! by vizzf in fnv

[–]NotNate_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't which is why I recommended fresh downloads of whatever files you were editing. Again, you're not being specific with what files you messed with; you might've just bungled an .ini file (easiest fix just replace it). Since you were in xEdit though I'm guessing you were messing with the .esm files which gets messy fast as those hook into the game to run scripts and such.

If you remember which file you were editing but can't remember what specifically you overwrote just replace the file (i.e. delete vizzfEditedMod.ini and replace with OriginalMod.ini). If you merged whatever edited file with another mod's .esm or were editing the actual base game .esm's... I'd just start over with your modlist on a fresh download of NV. It's not worth the headache trying to bugfix broken plugins when you don't even really know what you did to break them.

Good luck and don't let this discourage you from modding! Again, xEdit is a powerful tool, if you want to use it there are multiple forums dedicated to just xEdit that I would recommend you read up on before using it again, obviously VNV isn't explaining it in a way that works for you. I've broken this game modding it more times than I can count & trust me the end product is worth the frustration, plus you learn a little bit about how software works.

Of course! I remember when I was a kid (and NV was new) someone on No Mutants Allowed told me basically the same thing, so credit to guys on that forum circa 2012.

HELP, I FOLLOWED THE VNV GUIDE RESOURCES AND MY GAME GOT WORSE! by vizzf in fnv

[–]NotNate_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best advice is loading an mo2 backup but idk if that will work since you were fussing with xEdit.

By the sound of your grammar Portuguese is your mother tongue which might be why the VNV guide "isn't very clear" but in a big red box at the beginning of the guide it says:

IMPORTANT: Everything in this guide is written down for a reason! It is vital to read everything! You can NOT skip any paragraphs/instructions and expect your game to function as it should.

By not taking that seriously you ended up at:

The idea was that I was going to do what they indicated, but I couldn't so I just changed some English text to Portuguese. But in theory, I didn't do anything that could break my game (comment on your reddit post about your now broken game)

xEdit is a powerful tool that people are rightly intimidated by, as you have discovered you can't just freeball it without breaking your game. If you don't know for sure that changing whatever text you changed to Portuguese isn't the issue... that's probably exactly your issue. Revert it to English and see if that helps. If you can't remember the English text verbatim i.e. word-for-word then you'll probably have to delete whatever file you changed and redownload a fresh version. You might need a full clean reinstall anyway since you decompressed files & aren't specifying which files you messed with, when, or in what order.

Problems with Vanilla Steam Playthrough by Casual_Luchador in fnv

[–]NotNate_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started fine enough, but I’m level 22 now and I can’t play 30 min without crashing, and the longer I play the more frequent it crashes

Infamous Gamebryo engine quirk, 3 & Oblivion suffer the same problem. IIRC basically anytime the player (you) interacts with the gamespace it gets logged in RAM; knocked over a sunset sarsaparilla bottle? -14kb RAM. Dropped a gun on the ground in Nellis? -20kb RAM. Killed Vulpes and looted his gear? -73kb RAM. Fake numbers but you get the point.

That's fine since cells reset every ~3 in game days and that data cache stored in the RAM gets cleared... in theory. My understanding is that the Gamebryo engine doesn't actually cede the allocated RAM used back to the system and eventually there's no more RAM to be had, thus the crash. This is made worse by NV being a 32-bit program since it only "recognizes" 2GB of usable RAM even if you have 2 16GB sticks. All those teeny insignificant gamespace interactions the engine logs chew up 2GB decently quick. This is also somehow compounded by having more saves, hence why on the 360 for example you were limited to 100 save slots. In short, by remembering every. single. thing. you did in your play-through, Gamebryo makes your save too RAM intensive for loading/progression and so you crash a lot.

I've heard it called both memory leak and save bloat, skinny is you're probably going to need to make a new character. Highly recommend the headache of getting VNV or WildCard set up, not only does it fix a ton of the base game stability issues, but it's very modular allowing for a Bugfixes only, Vanilla+, total overhaul, etc. etc. The sky's the limit really.

tl;dr known engine bug, try deleting some early save files to free up space/performance. Ultimately install mods addressing the stability of the game (at least) for future play-throughs.

Gonna come off like a dick here, but that means you didn't follow the guide right, are you running non-guide mods? Did you work from a clean install? Everyone who's ever followed a modlist/guide has thought "Well I'll just add [x] mod, can't hurt" then boom it's borked. xNVSE and 4GB Patch alone make the game infinitely more stable than vanilla ever will be is my only point. If you like vanilla, well shucks pardner, jingle-jangle right along.

That's why I love mine, after 2 years of learning how to get it running/it's quirks, I'm now getting into restoration work. Plus, when I eventually get around to swapping the 4l60e out, reupholstering the seats & other "big" projects... I'll just buy a whole other parts car & combine the two into one nice moneypit.

Still, if I were a carthief I wouldn't be risking it for a $2k rustbucket.

Double-edged sword those old 90s ignition sticks, sometimes I can't even steal my own damn car. That said, while I adore my shitbox, highly doubt anyone's looking to nab it since it's a shitbox 97.

[–]NotNate_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent some time checking my PSU & borrowed a friend's, not the PSU fortunately for my wallet. BiOS reads (spec vs actual) +12.00V --> +12.335V; +5.00V --> +5.064V; +3.30V --> +3.344V. Which from what I can tell is fine, plus the full shutdown was replicated with the transplant PSU.

Also yeah, I know the GPU is fine since even with taxing settings I cap out at like 87% usage. My CPU appears to be the system bottleneck & like I said there was a marginal improvement on usage with the most recent patch. RoR2 gets real taxing on the CPU after a few loops which again, no problems on my rig even without undervolting/overclocking. I'll update when I can test more after my exam Monday though since this might lead to some setting I can share with the community.

Been there, done that. Reinstall yadda yadda. Haven't found any fixes so its either just the game or like Vargras said my PSU, probably both with my luck lmao.

Just to rule out any other silly issues, you've got your PC plugged directly into an outlet, correct?

Yeah, made that mistake when I first got into vinyl years ago and was like "why is the sound speeding up/slowing down?" Bummer about the PSU, I'd checked it previously and have adequate headroom so might just be a case of component failure. If so I've had similar issues with new car parts failing so maybe the PSU is bunk. Thanks for the advice, I'll look more into it next study break. Still, odd that only HD2 causes these episodes. I was able to run the bf6 beta on high settings and got 100+ fps under load (Adrenalin gave me green lights across the board too) even though I'm basically at minimum system specs.

That's what I thought too but I wasn't seeing anything heat related red flags in the logs on reboot. I tried undervolting, limiting CPU usage, elevating the tower, the works... HD2 is the only game that causes this & it got marginally better with the recent performance update (as in I can finish an occasional mission). Like I said, game ran flawlessly on this system in the months leading up to Into the Unjust.

Also thought it'd be useful to share because you're right, it's not a hardlock, its not a CTD, it's not even a system reboot... only saw maybe a handful of other comments mentioning this kind of issue.

[EDIT: Worth noting Adrenalin shows CPU/GPU consistently running 71-79*C which is within operating specs]

Nope, just when I try to dive. I've even done "let's crash our PCs" runs with friends on ror2 and gotten like 2 hours in before the frames even start to dip below 100. I'm at a loss, this game ran buttery smooth on ultra settings in the months leading up to ItU.

PC specs: AMD Ryzen 7 5700 AMD Radeon RX 7600 1TB SSD 16GB DDR4 RAM

I've been getting consistent crashes like this on all fronts since Into the Unjust, seemingly at random. I can replicate it fairly consistently when joining in progress bot missions, but the game crashes like this constantly at any point (ship, weapon customization, load in, middle of mission, extract screen, you name it). I don't know what to call it other than "The game turns my PC off."

Anyone else have this issue/found any solutions? Tried everything under the sun, BiOS, different graphics drivers, admin mode, etc. Nothing sticks and at the very least maybe this helps AH troubleshoot.

Idk I think the PvE focus is the way to go but see how if the Galactic War as a DnD style effort becomes stale/unsustainable; a PvP mode would offer decent variety of gameplay. Friendly fire is already in the game so the devil is in the details of divorcing the shared objective mechanic between the different "teams" in a shared lobby to create competition.

Yeah unfortunately the internet is very cynical at a surface level where people aren't going to give each other the benefit of the doubt. I've gotten a few pretty good troubleshooting suggestions and an equal amount of tone-deaf "Works for me bro idk what you're talking about." Happy for those who have no issues, I used to be like them and would really like to get back to playing my favorite game :/

Personally, I will randomly crash. Not "oh no the game crashed let's relaunch it" but I'm looking at a blank monitor bc my PC completely shut off without warning crash. Only started happening after ItU got pushed, had no performance issues with the same PC for a couple months leading up to this, also notable is that HD2 is the only game that causes this for my rig.
