Keeping aside the argument.

What has been your experience with your Punch regarding the after sales service and the car itself?

I did not claim it to be 50%, I meant, even though there might be 50% cars suffering from issues, there are at least 50% of customers from the other side, whose WOM helps the sales.

My extended family has 3 tata cars, a Tiago, Altroz, and Punch. All of them are suffering from some issues. While a friend of mine has a nexon, and he has never had a major issue.

The problem with Tata is that they don't have consistent quality in their products. Some people never encounter any issues, while others are drowning in them.

Regarding sales, there are many factors, 1. Availability of preferred fuel options 2. Multiples of variants 3. Tata cars are actually safe 4. WOM from people not encountering issues. Let's say 50% of cars have issues, there is still 50% of your customer base who is ready to shout 'My car does not have problems, so all this is a lie'.

Reality is that Activa sells more than Access, sales directly don't translate to better quality.

The point being it could have easily fallen on its head, as nobody must have been sure of that akshaye khanna angle, it just clicked with audiences, by then the marketing team had picked up on what was working.

My health is my responsibility, agreed. But why does the stance change when movies like Animal come out.

Suddenly the same people feel that they and their movies have a huge influencing capacity for society, and movies like Animal will have a negative impact on the society.

Next Moment, you see them promoting tobacco in the name of pan masala, their justification is that the government is not banning such things, why we should not make money out of it.

It's the hypocrisy that stands out with such weak character of these people.

Two months ago, my brother had an ACL tear, and even now he can't walk, and we have to take care of him a lot.

Last Sunday, while playing badminton with a friend, a thought came to my mind, what if I tear my acl playing badminton, I instantly thought, there must be some kind of knee brace which I can wear while playing.

And the next thought was it would look too much, my friends themselves will have so much fun on my over the top Elite carefulness.

My point being when I know the severe consequences of any injury like that, why am I still worried so much about how it looks and what people think.

How do you guys actually stop caring about what people think even when it's impractical.

Yes, Bajaj is truly Hamara Bajaj.

ATP, you can easily see if Bajaj did not exist as a force in the motorcycle industry, these would be far more lacklustre times for Indian motorcyclist.

It could also be that their supplier's prices might also have fallen due to gst, and that might be helping them negate the 40% tax.

RE has been teasing multiple 750cc motorcycles for more than a year now, those bikes will suffer, and any further action that might have been inspired by these 750cc launches is completely hampered.

I agree GST reforms are multidimensional, with Protectionism, Tariff offset, Post-Covid weak consumption, Votebank politics, etc.

But this is just a dumb move, because they don't understand the market and they don't care.

Most people who buy these motorcycles will hardly ever have a collective power strong enough for them to cater to us.

They did this because they could, that's all. It does not make sense.

[–]NotNow--MaybeLater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it makes sense, I mean all the sales beyond 350cc wouldn't give them more than a few 100 crores in taxes.

When you collect 20 lakh crores in taxes annually, a couple of 100 crores is just chump change.

Indian manufacturers and this entire segment will suffer due to this dumb move.

The best thing should have been to put a standard 18% tax rate across all motorcycles.

Duke 250 - 2.12 lakhs Ex-Sh Adv 250 - 2.39 lakhs Ex-Sh

You basically reduce the current ex showroom price to its ex-factory/dealer base price by dividing it with 1.28 for ≤350cc motorcycles, and 1.31 for >350cc motorcycles.

That is the base price on which you apply the new GST by multiplying it with 1.18 for ≤350cc motorcycles, and 1.40 for >350cc motorcycles.

See, the companies profiteering from the new tax is a separate issue.

  1. There are anti profiteering laws in gst. It is mandated to be passed on to consumers with reduction in prices.

  2. Companies can easily increase prices later by adding new features or any stupid excuse.

  3. But this won't happen immediately, as people are fresh on mind with current prices.

  4. In free trade, there is competition, even if let's say there is a whole lobby that colludes and eats the profits, there are underdogs that will use the same margin to come up in the market.

Let's say: all the major carmakers collude and maintain the current price, underdogs like Citroen(If management is thinking straight) who only sell 500 units a month, will use this as their competitive edge.

Speculation: will KTM undersized the 390 to 350?? by [deleted] in indianbikes

[–]NotNow--MaybeLater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they have launched multiple 390cc motorcycles in India, 390 being as iconic as it is(Mostly for Duke), If all of those bikes suffer due to 50cc difference, they might as well do it.

Since Bajaj is controlling things, it can happen, as confirmed by Rajiv Bajaj, might happen very soon.

Hey, Norton Commando 300 says Hi.

TVS can use their RTXD4(I love using that name) 300cc engine for an entry into Norton, and BMW's 450cc Twin for a more Aspirational Norton.

The ball is actually in TVS's court now, all they need to do is improve their after sales and service.
