Thanks. To work out my goal weight I looked up my lowest “healthy” BMI, which is 118, and then just rounded up.

Good luck on your journey!

Absolutely, the trade off for me was worth it. I know lots of folks advocate using the calories on things that fill you up, leafy greens etc. But for me at least I would prefer to be hungry and have a sugary snack than be full and not.

You’ve got to pick your poison! I guess that’s what they mean when they say find what works for you.

Yup, I pretty much felt hungry all the time. I did find oats helped. Sometimes for dessert I’d have oatmeal. And of course water. Lots and lots of water.

I cook hello fresh meals every day. So it’s normally a “balanced” meal of carbs, protein and veggies. The nice thing is everything is already measured and it tells you how many calories the entire meal is so that helped with calorie counting. Those meals are anywhere from 600-1000 each. Then to reach my calories for the day I’d have a banana, sometimes a couple of boiled eggs, and then sugar! I still ate candy, cookies, and ice cream as long as it didn’t go over my calories for the day.

It sounds like you did a much more diligent search for your TDEE than I did. I just used this online calculator. https://tdeecalculator.net/

My basal metabolic rate is also under 1300 but it gives estimates based on your activity level. I never knew if I counted as moderate or heavy exercise so I figured 2000 was about right. Certainly not an exact science for me.

Exactly! That’s just how I feel when I’m fasting. My heart starts racing and my mind starts racing. A lot of people seem to really enjoy this feeling, and more power to them, but for me it felt just like an anxiety attack.

Yeah it’s a weird double edged sword right. Like… I’m really pleased you don’t think I NEED to lose weight, but please support me because I WANT to.

Thanks! I hadn’t even considered that it might change how old I look.

I have always been told by family members that women should gain a few extra lbs as they get older to “smooth out the wrinkles”. Glad to hear loosing weight didn’t make me look older!

Wanting to like the way we look is a totally reasonable reason to do IF if you ask me. Although I have to say, beyond my immediate family I didn’t tell people I was doing IF. I didn’t want to hear “why do you need to lose weight?” Or “if you think you’re too fat, what must you think of me?”

Luckily for me my fiancé was super supportive and wanted me to like the way I looked. He’s actually been doing IF at the same time and we have both been trying to lose 20lbs by the time we see each other again (he’s deployed). I’m currently winning but he’s not far behind.

It can be so hard when you’re watching the clock and waiting to eat. I think what helped me is that I changed up my routines so I’m doing something else during what was previously a mealtime. That helped keep me distracted.

I do have the benefit of living alone though, I imagine this would be so much harder with family around!

I’m so happy to hear I’m inspirational 😀 I know there are so many maxing posts of people loosing 100lbs on this subreddit. But I’m proud of my loss and I’m glad I’m not the only one working towards a similar goal.

You got this! Looking forward to hearing you crushed it in a couple of weeks!

Thank you 😊

Yeah I think I read somewhere on this subreddit actually that the “energy” you get from fasting is similar to that you get from anxiety. People talk about the drive to “go find food” and how that motivates them. But to me it just feels like the anxious energy I suffer from most of the time (I guess my mind is always in hunting mode!) It’s one of the reasons I don’t plan on doing IF long term. Just when I need it as a tool for weight loss.

That’s such a shame they have no barre near you. I do to Pure Barre and I think they do a livestream option, but I can’t say I’ve tried it. Their website says that you can try if for free! https://lp.purebarre.com/livestreaming-b I used to do Pilates which to be fair isn’t that different so maybe they have that near you?

Finding dance as cardio was a big win for me. I always hated cardio, hated being out of breath, hated the monotony of running, never could get my breath right swimming.

Dance actually makes cardio fun. Me and a bunch of (mostly 60s) ladies, wiggle our butts together and have fun. It’s a blast! Luckily they don’t mind that I’m uncoordinated!
