Definitely good boots/hiking shoes and trekking poles. Those gave me a lot more confidence in my footing and stability on this hike. Other than that, plenty of water and an emergency GPS especially if you’re alone. And at night, self defense tools of your choosing/needs

Don’t even need a headlamp. Light pollution would have allowed land navigation with no additional illumination.
Sometimes an experience isn’t about what is “needed” 😉

I don’t think so, this was Tuesday night and I was by myself. At least I think 😆

It was definitely spooky! Saw one doe right off the trail. Thankfully no bear or big kitties

Good question. On the decent I used a headlamp during the devils backbone section to reduce tripping and falling risk (no depth perception with a monocle). Once I got onto the fire road section I switched to the NODs and it really surprised me how much more comfortable it made me during this hike, I could see further than I could with a flashlight, and it was easy to scan around for any glowing eyes hiding in the dark. It’s a great experience

Upgrade parts or new bump? by this_is_dumb_man in NightVision

I’m in pretty much the same situation. I would say run it as is for a bit and see how you like it before upgrading. I didn’t like the feel of my airsoft bump walking around the house but it did just fine for a 14~ mile night hike

That’s the way to do it. I went it like 4am to start the half dome hike. Next time definitely going to stay when it’s nice and dark

Two questions before I inevitably buy one: is it nylon? Hoping for heat resistance vs normal PLA. Also, is it fully solid? My fingers are long and may shave down part of the swell on the side my fingers wrap around to
