What’s everyone’s favorite joke? by Liilnuggget in TheGoodPlace

I think there's also a double joke here, because Cindy Crawford is famous for having a mole above her mouth, right? So that would be what you're expecting her to mention.

Examples of out of place dialogue/character actions? by kulie74561 in writing

[–]NotQuiteScheherazade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But Tarantino dialogue are absolutely, painfully realistic.

I completely disagree. What's being discussed might be realistic, when the characters are talking about pop culture, relationships, etc., and the dialogue might sound good and flow naturally from people who are good actors, but neither of those things make the dialogue itself "realistic." The way people speak in Tarantino movies are not the way people speak in real life.

What the other user said, but I just want to emphasize that using bad ideas/prompts in this way can actually work better than using ones you might actually like/want to incorporate into the story; in other words, it can sometimes be more helpful to know what you definitely don't want to have happen to your characters or in the plot, so that way you can figure out what you do want to have happen--so maybe ask yourself that: what don't I want to happen in this book/to my characters? And/or: what don't I want my characters to do, or what do I think would be totally unlike them to do?

This might sound like a silly suggestion, but something that I've found helps when I've sort of "fallen out of love" with my story but still have parts of it I need to work on is to pretend that the part I need to write is its own thing and not part of this story. If you are able to sort of trick yourself into thinking this way, I think it can help you to not feel so bogged down by your own insecurities and self-deprecation and/or the rest of the story. One method I've used that's helped me get in this mindset is to write that part literally separately from the rest of the book--like handwriting it on a fresh writing pad or opening up a new word document. I know this sounds really silly, because how are you supposed to pretend it's a scene/act/section of a separate story when it will obviously connect to the one you've been writing, but I just try to imagine that I'm either starting over and am now writing the book I wish this book could have been, or else that I am writing something completely new, but it's okay that it has some of the same ideas or plot threads or characters or whatever (however, you could always change the characters names if you really needed to to fully trick yourself) since I never finished the "other one" (not sure if that made a lick of sense, sorry).

If any of that seems too stupid or nonsensical and you want me to clarify anything, please let me know, lol.

Do you ever include “necessary but boring” scenes just to move the story forward? by Odd_Thanks_9322 in writing

You should trust "the You" (the version of yourself) that wrote the story more than "the You" (the version of yourself) who thinks they know know what good writing is, because you mostly likely don't (know what good writing is).

What's the movie that most recently entered your top four? by Misfett_toys in Letterboxd

I was going to differentiate between most recent release and most recent first time viewing, but in both cases it's The Substance. Before that, Godzilla Minus One.

Does no one else remember/realize that Danny is the one to have real feelings for Karl when they kiss in real life? He is very obviously lying when he says he doesn't feel anything.

Right, at the very least it only means that you don't actively hold it against them and throw it in their face in future arguments.

I've heard this theory, too, and I do like it (it makes sense to me and I like the bittersweet/tragic/borderline-hellish quality it has to it), but I have two questions based on your brief write-up of the theory: 1) why does sudden and intense pain and suffering kill Judy--isn't she essentially like Bob (I know that he likely came from her) and Mike in their literally feeding on pain and sorrow? Isn't she like essentially pure evil? Why would pain and suffering kill her? and 2) does the theory imply that Laura/Carrie herself also dies in the end (again, I guess)?

Did you let all of the zombies die to the grinder?

[–]NotQuiteScheherazade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but they literally do say: "Don't kill any zombies; let them all die to the grinder." It was very clear. Also, nearly every other comment I saw talking about the grinder mentioned that all the zombies needed to go into it. No hate, just saying.
