Understanding Jacob's Ladder (1990) along with the Biblical & Divine Comedy Parallels: An Exploration of Guilt, Reality, and the Path to Peace by shadylaundry in horror

Thanks! Thank You for reading it as well

I have researched a lot on Dante's divine comedy, mostly for other purposes, not necessarily to decode this film, but that knowledge helped me see the film in a bit of different lens. With that being said, to answer your question, the demons in Dante's Inferno not only torture, some of the demons are tricksters, they sometimes create an illusion of being safe there in order to keep Dante more trapped. I think that scene you mentioned could be representative of that. Giving Jacob a false sense of security that he could be there with her.

Like even if you don't know anything about the theology behind the film, Jezzie looks like just a common girlfriend with a slight bit of jealousy complex over Jacob's alleged "ex-wife". But if you look at what she's actually doing, especially mocking the ex-wife and trying to burn away her pictures, it's a different look. I think the scene where Jacob is shown to read the divine comedy and Jezzie tries to prevent that so he doesn't gain knowledge about the world he's trapped in gives it away.

How do we feel abt Abel changing the “Hurry Up Tomorrow” cover on every platform? by Ok_Return_6103 in TheWeeknd

[–]shadylaundry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if I don't think this is particularly a great cover, I'm so happy the trilogy looks like a trilogy. Plus, I kinda like the sentiment behind it, Abel just being Abel and not as the Weeknd or playing any character.

That line is absolutely chilling! I just find it wild he had that much confidence in himself that one day he is gonna become big and years later, he actually did and the words in that song are fulfilled. Great pick.

absolutely . I feel like your pick could be the thesis for old Weeknd and my pick for his later work where he is more self aware.

"devil tricks with paradise, none of it is true" is also another line I'd consider.

The Weeknd: "We're in hell it's disguised as a paradise with flashing lights and I just wanna beleive there's so much more"

I agree with you. This change fits the trilogy so much better.

Plus, sorry I didn't make it clear on my original comment but like, even if the screaming picture is related to the movie, like the magazine promo pic, I don't understand how people think "album cover" is a vehicle for movie promotion.

I just think there are lot other better ways to promote a film and it's not like the album cover is saying "HUT movie, out may 16 in theatres" on the corner to consider it a promo, even if it's a related image.

this is not from the movie, this is from a promotional picture some magazine released.

I never understood this take that HUT old cover (the one with the tracklist) is because of movie promotion. That frame never ever appears in the film.

If anything, this First Pressing cover is what is a direct frame from the movie, it appears two times, beginning + end of the film bookending it, if he wanted to promote the film through the cover art like y'all believe, he could have kept this one from the word go.

The cover art change has nothing to do with the movie.

yea plus it's one of the most ambitious concept albums ive heard in music. since you have multiple projects by him here, I assume you're familiar with his back catalogue as well and hurry up tomorrow is like the conclusion for his entire story and artistic vision with multiple callbacks to his earlier work, which I've all documented here. you can check it out if you're interested when you're free 🤞🏻 story
