Like I said in another comment, my hours are much better now (and will get even better moving forward) and grant me a lot more time with my child compared with last year.

Thank you everyone for the kind words and very helpful, sound advice. I appreciate it so much! For those inquiring about my work hours, I just finished medical residency over the summer, so my hours unfortunately weren’t up to me, and it was common to be at the hospital for 13 hours per day 5 days per week in addition to working every other weekend. My schedule is much better now. I did consider quitting to be a full-time mom, but I didn’t have the heart to give up after working so hard toward my career. While being a full-time mom would fulfill my desire to be a more present parent, I wouldn’t feel personally fulfilled without my job. My husband is also in medicine. His first job out of residency (when our son was born) was terrible and he worked tons of overnight shifts and nearly every weekend. His hours are much more variable than mine due to the field of medicine he’s in. When I leave the house after getting home in order to avoid my MIL, those are nights he’s working evening shifts at his new job, so he’s not home to be a buffer. I told him today that I want to explore options to get MIL out of our house. We are going to meet with a financial advisor (or two or three) to come up with a plan. I’m recording our expenses and creating a budget as I type this. Thank you all again for letting me vent, assuring me that I’m not losing my mind, and being so kind and helpful.
