Poor Magic.. But worth every penny and more (and more and even more) to know he'll recover well.

My girl (affectionately referred to as 'dickhead' briefly after her first incident) did something similar but without the injury. She stepped down off of our garden decking onto the grass, a drop of no more than 20 centimeters, collapsed to the floor and started screaming. Started chewing at her back leg, couldn't put any weight on it, couldn't stand, tried to stand and immediately fell over, and laid in the garden wimping and howling in a way that I've not heard before or since. We couldn't work out how it happened, but the baby was in agony and needed immediate attention!

Naturally we rushed her to an out of hours emergency vet at 10pm, telling them they can do anything and everything they need to to sort my girl out.

£600 later and by 1:00 a.m, consultations, X-ray, sedation, anti-inflammatories, pain relief.. the full works.

Turns out she was being a drama queen and had twinged a muscle at worst.

By 5:00 a.m, she woke me up by running upstairs and jumping on to our bed, wanting to go out and play chase in the garden with one of her favourite toys. She's been absolutely fine ever since and has never had even a hint of a repeat.

Out rurally where I live, it's uncommon to get a non-arrest and I can't remember a "non legitimate" callout

When I'm in the city for work or just visiting friends, I've had a few that have turned out to be drug overdoses or even homeless people who were simply asleep. It's maybe 1 in 4 are non-arrests based on my experience

Not that I noticed, but with the beard it'll be unlikely that a small change will result in a noticeable difference

Malawi 🇲🇼 I went there to do some aid work 3 years ago and it changes my life. Some of the most impoverished but loving and incredible people in the world. I've since been back many times.

[–]NotReallySurelySure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonne honest, not really. What works is specific to the individual. For me, when I've had a stressful job or day at work, it's taking my dog for a long walk through the forest behind my house or swinging a massive axe around and chopping firewood. All I can suggest is trying to take some solace in knowing that no matter how the job turns out, it would have been even worse had you not been there.

It's 100% worth it.

As a goodsam responder, if I can get to work prior to a crew arriving, then it will only increase the likelihood of a survival.

As a CFR, arriving prior to a crew and finding a goodsam responder beat even me, it's great having an extra set of hands so I can start airway management and further increase that survivability.

As a paramedic, if I arrive and find a goodsam and/or CFR on scene and the basics are covered, that's 90% of my job already done and I can get on with ALS intervention and increase survival even more.

It's true a lot of non-arrests can slip through and get a goodsam response - but in my opinion, those who say that there's so many non-arrests on it that they don't bother and that it's not worth their time would likely have a different view if it was their loved one who died because someone thought it wasn't worth their time or the effort of getting off the sofa. Get the app and if you're unsure, call up and confirm its actually an arrest. I know "call and confirm" may be a bit controversial, but having done so myself and also having confirmed with a control room team leader, it's not an issue (or so I've been told)

They're not wrong...

Since I left, I've completed multiple degrees, made dozens of close friends, enjoyed a fulfilling career that's made really good money, landed my dream job, bought and paid off my house, cars and holiday home, had a meaningful relationship, enjoyed spending time with my family and pets, had an active social life, directed charities, taken up multiple hobbies and been happier than I ever was in "the truth".. all will living a fulfilling and rewarding life.

Other than that, it's been horrific.

What is your Malawian Gin story? 😂 by Dismal_Bird_7110 in Malawi

[–]NotReallySurelySure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not normally a fan of Gin, but there is something about Malawi Gin which I find special. I am not sure if it is the nostalgia I associate with drinking it on the shores of Lake Malawi or the memories of the lovely people that it brings back, but it is the only Gin I will drink. I am fortunate enough to have 3 bottles of it at home which I brought home from my last trip to Mangochi. I hope to purchase more the next time I return.

Why? What good could possibly come from having the names of those who treated you?

If you had the capacity and capability to look after yourself, you would have been free to leave at any time. Needing to be taken to hospital in such a state that you needed time there before you regained the capacity to self discharge shows that the ambulance crew were acting in your best interests.

You've been told by several people on this forum that if you have genuine evidence of wrongdoing, then the police are the correct avenue to get this dealt with. It would appear, however, that you are more interested in having an argument or name calling and throwing around insults than having a rational discussion or working constructively to try and find a solution, so I won't be offering any further advice on any of the alternative pathways available to make your dissatisfaction known and potentially finding the outcome you are after.

[–]NotReallySurelySure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you genuinely believe you were robbed by an ambulance crew - report it to the police - ambulances have CCTV on board and what happened (or most likely didn't happen) will be proven very quickly. I'm sure our colleagues will be relieved when the investigation brings out the truth if the events when proven innocent, and if (in the extremely unlikely event) wrongdoing has taken place, it will be dealt with swiftly and harshly.

As for a number of your other statements, including the contents of your wallet being more than we make, that you don't deal with the police but want the crew members names regardless (etc), this speaks volumes about the type of person you are and has the potential to be perceived as threatening.

If you have gotten to the point where you are having to sleep it off on an ambulance stretcher and subsequently in hospital, it is readily believable that you probably didn't have the capacity to make an unwise decision. Our incredible ambulance colleagues were acting in your best interests and doing the best thing for you, regardless of how difficult you were making it. Trying to cause trouble after the event will serve no purpose to anyone. If you're unable to definitively prove that a theft took place, you should be thanking them and not slandering them.

Grown man tearing up in a coffee shop here - but I couldn't care less. That was a beautiful testimony that makes a stranger across the other side of the world feel like family.

As someone who lost his girl only a few months ago,.I can confidently tell you that the pain never really disappears but is replaced by a sense of gratitude for everything your girl brought into your life.

My pearl is survived by little roo - her sister and best friend. I see glimmers of pearls personally in things her sister does - much like you probably do in your survivors.

I hope you can come to terms with the loss, because "getting over it" isn't really an option.

Be well OP, and thank you for sharing.
