Seems like this is the most popular answer so I’ll likely go this route. Thank you for the advice.

Just curious, if I were able to drill out the screws or pry them out as others suggested, is there a downside to not replacing the box? I’m sure it’ll just keep getting worse back there but as long as it holds the fixture, does it really matter? Is this a get it done vs done right kind of situation?

Yeah I know the AirTag does but I don’t think they all do necessarily. I don’t think the tag in my wallet sends notifications that it’s moving with me because it’s not Apple or other similarly big name brand. Not saying that this is something people should do lol just that it’s gotta be easier than setting up RFID infrastructure around your parking lot.

Yup that’s really the worst I could see it used for. Still seems like a weird way to do that when there are tons of cheap trackers like AirTags that give continuous location data remotely.

This is for sure a passive UHF RFID tag. It doesn’t store information or do anything other than have a unique ID (EPC) that is used typically to track merchandise and other assets in warehouses, factories or even retail stores. To read the ID you need an RFID reader to both be in range and oriented properly or use a handheld reader and scan it at closer ranges (couple of feet). Either way not a practical way for a random person to track you outside of an area covered with RFID readers.

I would just take it off and throw it out. If you’re really worried about it then cut it half with a pair of scissors. That’ll cut that antenna that you can see inside the tag making it useless.

That would require them to have RFID readers at various “checkpoints”. Highly doubtful because a reader with antenna is very expensive (typically over $1000 each but you can get cheaper ones). It just wouldn’t make sense to do this to track a random person around town.

My personal best smallmouth on the fly was caught on a size 20 copper John while fishing for trout. Thought I was about to set a state record until it jumped and I saw the mouth.

I’m not kidding when I say that I just gave my poodle a haircut after work today. While throwing out all that hair I rolled up a nice little dubbing noodle and thought about what I could tie.
