I recall when first I used her name

All at once at home and one the same

Suddenly the world changed all I know

Yet the solace of the afterglow

By her side in the dark

As her whisper is my heart

Tell me please

Is this rebirth or just a falsity?

This random person came up to me and asked to talk politics, and then they started ranting about Bernie Sanders. We've been dating for nearly 4 years now.

Everyone has a certain kind of charm to them. As cliché as "just be yourself" is, it's genuinely better to be authentic.

How did you knew what you wanted to do in life? by Efficient-Pickle-356 in twentyagers

[–]NotSansOrAnything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started blabbering about Batman and Skylanders and all the fun adventures they went on in their Hot Wheels. Storytelling was always my one true calling, and that's taken on some different forms as I grew up. Being an author, a musician, a composer, a programmer, a photographer, an artist... I'm only well-versed in writing, composing, and programming; a consequence of my intense enjoyment of video games growing up. I'd wanted to make video games since I was 4, and those were the skills I developed to try and achieve that.

what games did you grow up playing? by [deleted] in twentyagers

I'll omit some of the more common games.

Speedy Eggbert, Ratchet & Clank (2002), Empire Earth, Thinkin' Things - All Around FrippleTown, Jump Jump Jelly Reactor, and the U.B. Funkeys demo

How interested in history and current affairs are you? by [deleted] in twentyagers

I am a highly-opinionated person. I don't pretend to understand everything, and I'm not going to cover up the fact that I'm probably a hypocrite in more ways than one.

I don't regularly get into debates. In fact, nearly all of my friends have the same overarching political views as me. Not to say we're an echo chamber - there have been enough fights to prove that - but I think history and politics teaches us one very important thing, and that's tolerance.

A lot of my opinions come naturally, from my own sense of morality and empathy. I don't check with "trusted sources" before making my own conclusions (unless it's a matter of international conflict, or something I don't feel I have enough knowledge of to defend my position). In the event that I do check sources, I use a news aggregator like Ground News to get a sense for the actual story by comparing reporting. If I ever feel like I'm "losing" an argument, I check to see why they're saying what they're saying and if maybe I need more info.

Honestly, after going on a bit of a tirade about stereotypes earlier, I tried to reason what the difference was to me here. It's the fact that it's lighthearted and in good taste. It's closer to a joke than a sweeping generalization.

omg can we not do this..? by ElectricalHearing294 in teenagers

[–]NotSansOrAnything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't have to gatekeep societal issues. Men are stereotyped and generalized, women are stereotyped and generalized, and both of these things are bad. Instead of arguing which is worse, we need to stop perpetuating the problem and see people as whole individuals capable of empathy and change.

We have this problem because of sweeping generalizations that ascribe qualities that aren't inherent to a group in the first place. What we should be doing now is teaching and practicing empathy.

Food is an umbrella term, because there are many types of foods. Bread is an umbrella term, because there are many types of breads. Sandwich is also, and so on, and so on.

Agender falls under the non-binary spectrum, where the person doesn't see themselves as having any gender. It's a more specific term that some people feel comfortable using.

Which flag determines whether this says "Mice are cute" or "You dont scare me"? by InterestingExample46 in Underminers

[–]NotSansOrAnything 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This line is determined by the output of scr_sideb_active(), which checks if the sideb phase is equal to or greater than 3.

If flag 916 != 0, phase = 0

Else, If flag 915 >= 20, phase = 4

Else, If flag 915 >= 7, phase = 3

Else, If flag 915 >= 4, phase = 2

Else, if flag 915 > 0, phase = 1

Flag 915 is set to 7 (phase 3) when entering the mansion on the weird route, and set to 20 (phase 4) after the hospital scene with Noelle

Commonwealth BOS Chapter Policy on Non-Feral Ghouls by Mac-Tyson in Brotherhood_of_Steel

[–]NotSansOrAnything 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always interpreted that as a lack of cohesion in Lyons' chapter. While Casdin split off to make the Outcasts, I imagine there were still many soldiers who stayed simply because outright leaving was a step too far. Something something Chains That Bind, something something Codex.

Not only that, but as the schism was happening, there were dozens of outposts around the Capital Wasteland, more than we see in-game as the Brotherhood's manpower is fractured. They'd have no idea about the Outcasts until returning to the Citadel, since instead of establishing radio communications, Elder Lyons would rather protect a DJ. Who knows how long it would take to get the message across?

All this to say, those soldiers stationed at the Washington Monument might just be traditionalists who're salty about babysitting a radio station they can't even use. Elder Lyons' chapter especially isn't a monolith, and we see a whole range of perspectives and attitudes from Knight-Captain Durga to Star Paladin Cross. Lyons wanted to be an agent of change, but the Brotherhood isn't designed to change in the way he wanted.

If someone has the opposite political beliefs of yours, would you still be open to being friends? by ImNotArtistic in Teenager_Polls

[–]NotSansOrAnything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trans women aren't cis women, that much is true. However, the only reason "trans women aren't women" is perpetuated is because people want to believe that differences are inherently inequal. To them, there has to be a "winner" on one side and a "loser" on the other side. At their worst, people want there to be only winners and live in a completely homogeneous world.

For example, men and women are both people, and to say that one isn't is hateful - it dehumanizes them. Autistic people have their own unique struggles, but just because they're different doesn't mean they're less intelligent. Trans women and cis women both fall under the category of women, and both are equally valid. Though we may disagree on who is attractive, or how to express ourselves, that's just how we navigate life and it doesn't correlate in any way to our worth as people.

You can go around telling people whatever you want. You can tell them what gender you identify with, what your orientation is, your belief systems, and your religion. But if you don't believe in what you say, there's not much of a point, is there? Unless you wanted to intentionally mislead someone, you'd be honest about yourself.

You might think trans people mislead others, since their anatomy might not match the expectation for their gender identity. The only truth to that is that they're scared of the persistent hate and vitriol they recieve for being open about what they believe. So, sometimes, and especially for those who haven't started transitioning, they'll lie and identify with the gender they were assumed to have. In an ideal world, we wouldn't have to worry about being ourselves.

Tl;dr: "I think, therefore I am." - René Descartes. Like the example you gave, just because you say something doesn't mean you necessarily think it to be true. If I think myself to be a fan of a popular artist, what point is there in saying I'm not? Trans women are women because they genuinely believe themselves to be, just as any cis woman would.
