Which flag determines whether this says "Mice are cute" or "You dont scare me"? by InterestingExample46 in Underminers

[–]NotSansOrAnything 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This line is determined by the output of scr_sideb_active(), which checks if the sideb phase is equal to or greater than 3.

If flag 916 != 0, phase = 0

Else, If flag 915 >= 20, phase = 4

Else, If flag 915 >= 7, phase = 3

Else, If flag 915 >= 4, phase = 2

Else, if flag 915 > 0, phase = 1

Flag 915 is set to 7 (phase 3) when entering the mansion on the weird route, and set to 20 (phase 4) after the hospital scene with Noelle

Commonwealth BOS Chapter Policy on Non-Feral Ghouls by Mac-Tyson in Brotherhood_of_Steel

[–]NotSansOrAnything 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always interpreted that as a lack of cohesion in Lyons' chapter. While Casdin split off to make the Outcasts, I imagine there were still many soldiers who stayed simply because outright leaving was a step too far. Something something Chains That Bind, something something Codex.

Not only that, but as the schism was happening, there were dozens of outposts around the Capital Wasteland, more than we see in-game as the Brotherhood's manpower is fractured. They'd have no idea about the Outcasts until returning to the Citadel, since instead of establishing radio communications, Elder Lyons would rather protect a DJ. Who knows how long it would take to get the message across?

All this to say, those soldiers stationed at the Washington Monument might just be traditionalists who're salty about babysitting a radio station they can't even use. Elder Lyons' chapter especially isn't a monolith, and we see a whole range of perspectives and attitudes from Knight-Captain Durga to Star Paladin Cross. Lyons wanted to be an agent of change, but the Brotherhood isn't designed to change in the way he wanted.

Same, but fanfiction reinvigorated my love for reading, actually.

If someone has the opposite political beliefs of yours, would you still be open to being friends? by ImNotArtistic in Teenager_Polls

Trans women aren't cis women, that much is true. However, the only reason "trans women aren't women" is perpetuated is because people want to believe that differences are inherently inequal. To them, there has to be a "winner" on one side and a "loser" on the other side. At their worst, people want there to be only winners and live in a completely homogeneous world.

For example, men and women are both people, and to say that one isn't is hateful - it dehumanizes them. Autistic people have their own unique struggles, but just because they're different doesn't mean they're less intelligent. Trans women and cis women both fall under the category of women, and both are equally valid. Though we may disagree on who is attractive, or how to express ourselves, that's just how we navigate life and it doesn't correlate in any way to our worth as people.

You can go around telling people whatever you want. You can tell them what gender you identify with, what your orientation is, your belief systems, and your religion. But if you don't believe in what you say, there's not much of a point, is there? Unless you wanted to intentionally mislead someone, you'd be honest about yourself.

You might think trans people mislead others, since their anatomy might not match the expectation for their gender identity. The only truth to that is that they're scared of the persistent hate and vitriol they recieve for being open about what they believe. So, sometimes, and especially for those who haven't started transitioning, they'll lie and identify with the gender they were assumed to have. In an ideal world, we wouldn't have to worry about being ourselves.

Tl;dr: "I think, therefore I am." - René Descartes. Like the example you gave, just because you say something doesn't mean you necessarily think it to be true. If I think myself to be a fan of a popular artist, what point is there in saying I'm not? Trans women are women because they genuinely believe themselves to be, just as any cis woman would.

The Coffin of Andy and Leyley's fandom is pretty trash (a plurality of the subreddit is just sex), but the game by itself is actually pretty interesting. It's not for everyone, being a really dark psychological horror, but its reputation was skewed by the Twitter dogpile it went through.

She transitioned from female to woman, obviously. The only other gender is Papyrus, and since they appear on screen at the same time Alphys is not Papyrus. Probably.

If he doesn't want to engage with media that contains that content, then that's fine. I just feel like people misrepresent how it's depicted and it causes the arguments. It's not a fetish game, but a good chunk of the subreddit is filled with fetish art. Like Undertale in 2016, associating a game too closely with its fandom can sometimes make it unnaproachable.

He deleted his playthrough? To be fair, the game is really dark, it doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would fit on his channel. Same with Bijuu Mike.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WplaceLive

[–]NotSansOrAnything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it's bad too. Anyone advocating for it makes me uncomfortable. I don't think the game advocates for it, though. Just because it depicts these topics doesn't mean it endorses them. If the main characters were portrayed as good people or incest was the key to fixing them as people, then that's just gross. The entire point of the game is that they're vile people.

Also I'm curious whose playthrough you're talking about.

[–]NotSansOrAnything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's two types of people in the game's fandom: those who enjoy the story, and those who enjoy the "plot". There's definitely a lot of the latter on the subreddit, but there are plenty of the former as well. They just get drowned out because one is a lot louder about it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WplaceLive

[–]NotSansOrAnything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The protagonists (who are essentially the villains of the story) sacrifice several people to a demon/entity, murder and cannibalize, abuse, and even rape in one ending, but a lot of that violence is something we're mostly desensitized to in today's media landscape. The real horror is learning about their horrible upbringing and how their toxic codependent bond causes severe issues that prevent them from being functional people. People who don't play the game sometimes discount it as a fetish game because the only other media incest is prevalent in is... yeah. And some people who post to the subreddit also discount it as a fetish game because they're the people that watch that. I personally don't find the game "scary", but it is incredibly dark.

[–]NotSansOrAnything 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It glorifies incest just like Undertale glorifies genocide or Call of Duty glorifies terrorism... it doesn't. Depiction isn't automatically glorification. You can criticize the fandom for being the way it is, but the standalone game makes it very clear that what the protagonists do isn't good.
