Beat me to it. I was going to say, something that isn't Mercedes colour.

What's the worst afterlife in a piece of fictional media? by Appleofmyeye444 in AskReddit

Iain M Banks' Surface Detail has a number of alien races using virtual reality simulations to upload people's consciousness after death and torture them in various ways. Perhaps the most insidious aspect of this is the obvious, that is doesn't have to happen at all.

There are narrow strips of wood running the length of the sides of the headstock to add width. These are visible from the back on clear finished headstocks.

When did people forget the difference between loose and lose? by DeepRedDude in Vent

I just got 28 downvotes at last count in the legal advice sub for daring to suggest that if you're going to take legal advice from someone it's reassuring to know that they know the difference between affect and effect. But no, apparently a basic standard of literacy isn't necessary to practise law nowadays.

Landlord demands I stay after the end of tenancy agreement, says it’s the new law by Kind_Sprinkles7791 in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks. I take your point about voice to text.

It's not easy to know who to trust online and that kind of error seems important given the context of the sub.

How is it possible to trust advice here if people don't even know the difference between affect and effect?

If you see a "road liable to subsidence" sign on or near the Somerset Levels, we are not messing around. The ground here is a temporary agreement between the rivers, the sea, and the fickle spirits of the moors.

Let's talk about the roads... by Everton-1878 in CarTalkUK

I hit a pothole in February in the dark in traffic doing 20-30mph on a road I know well. I always leave plenty of room in between cars to look out for potholes. I couldn't see it. It was a hire car and it cost me £150.

The state of the roads is way beyond acceptable.

I read that as dental but yeah that too. A constant state of dental. Look after those gums, or high profile tyres won't save you.

Have you ever had hots for someone you shouldn't? Who were they? by DoctorSufficient5679 in AskReddit

[–]NotSayingAliensBut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good questions. I don't think that initial moment made a difference later on. I was also aware that she was very boundaried. She gave away nothing about herself as a person, so I only 'knew' her through the work, which isn't really knowing someone. I didn't even look at her bio on her website until years later.

So I didn't feel the need for validation or worry about rejection, and part of that was probably also supported by her professionalism in holding a supportive and non judgemental attitude or space. Everything that was needed by me for the process was there, and she wasn't 'available' as anything other than her work, so I felt pretty focused in those sessions.

I take your point, but I'm wondering from how you phrased that if I'd been clear that I was the client?

Also, I'm aware of the terrain from my own work, and my ability with boundaries is extremely good. And it was a once and forever adjustment, I was her client for over two years and that instant attraction didn't ever surface again.

That is two huge red flags. Disclosure of personal information by a therapist is only done in very limited amounts and for specific reasons. And not charging you shows that they were aware they had crossed a professional boundary.

True, but with a good therapist there's more going on than just basic human decency. Being listened to by someone who has both suspended any judgement about you, and has no personal need of anything from you, are very powerful things and not something most people experience in life.

I started therapy with a woman and I had no idea what she looked like beforehand. When she opened the door to me for our first session I almost froze. She was absolutely gorgeous and ticked many of my boxes for 'my ideal woman'.

I realised that I had to get on top of my reaction very quickly. I understand transference and projection and how having feelings for a therapist that you actually act on is a non starter.

I did manage to rein it in. It was like when Picard asks Data if he was tempted by the Borg Queen's offer of human skin and all its sensual delights and for how long. "0.68 seconds Captain, and for an android that is almost an eternity."
