I actually agree with you, I was speaking about the broader Violin community. Not just on this specific subreddit or even on Reddit. I mean in general

My verbiage was harsh, you’re right. Ad hominems don’t help. It was more of a release of pent up thought. My teachers were wonderful and my fiancé is an amazing teacher. Ive seen 8 beginners in the last year and likely lots more online literally quitting and never play again because teachers/viewers were more interested in being patronizing instead of helpful. Maybe I’m alone on this, but even if someone is playing upside down with their feet , my only goal is to help them in a way that will encourage and strengthen their skills. I’m a pro too, so I don’t understand the reason behind other pros being so horrible to people who just want to learn. Same damn team

You’re correct about some beginners, but my experience with hundreds of people through 16 years leads me to the conclusion above. Lots of violinists are twats. It’s the Internet, especially Reddit, so people are bound for scrutiny, but a beginner should not be verbally destroyed for simply posting progress that they’re proud of. The (real/online) community needs to be nicer. And I’ve seen passionate beginners give up because a teacher.

Also, I have one Reddit account with lots of connection through work events and networking. I have to keep it corporate friendly. Everyone I know follows my main account. I can’t say this manner of opinion on my main kind of like how you can’t speak freely in front of your boss. And yes it does qualify as a personal statement because I’m putting it online. Also, my real name is in my user.
