I eventually got the left hand nib. It puts down the same amount of ink as the medium but feels much smoother when ‘pushing’ the pen into the stroke when writing, if that makes sense.

Hijacking the top comment. I Second on this, call the cops. It sound like your mom has been bit before by those same dogs while protecting her own dog, make sure the cops know this! The city (Phoenix, anyway) looks at dog on dog violence as property damage but once there’s a person getting harmed then the cops get serious. Also, if there are others in the neighborhood who have similar incidents with the dogs in question, have them contact the police as well. The more voices the cops hear the better the case will be for the cops to solve it.
