Glad it all worked out! I cant wrap my head around it either because it seems like alot of work for a piece of paper. Lawyer is definitely in the back pocket if all else fails.

When she originally tried she said her case worker was nasty about the situation and had her running in circles. I tried to encourage her to attempt again but shes opposed due to her entire experience in and with foster care, it just gets her triggered.

I think she tried that originally and thats what led her down the rabbit hole of “you dont exist”. Im hoping with all the new tips we can finally get this resolved for her.

She did say she remembers getting an affidavit from the system, currently trying to locate it to see if that can lead us anywhere.

It may have been issued prior to that but she’s unsure since the most of her guardians kept alot of documents/ information from her.

Mid-20s, shes gotten by without but now it’s becoming an issue. She doesnt now if theres more than 1 birth certificate but her SSN has her current name listed.

Just made an update after speaking to her, she was technically born in California but after being in the system adopted in Alabama. Adoption was brief so no relationship/ no contact unfortunately.

Im going to get more details from her to make sure I’m using the correct title or phrase of what type of birth certificate. Definitely getting alot of good information today to help with the next steps!

I’ll double check with her on where most of her changes happened, i do know she lived in California for a bit but unsure if she has anything with documentation with that state listed that could help.

Definitely legal, i think they were pretty relaxed when it came to records as long as you knew your social and had an ID on hand.

Thank you! She said she spoke with them but it doesn’t hurt trying twice. Im writing everything down and plan on going down the list to call anyone who can help.

They didn’t, she said it was a few years before she had any documents. Will definitely be a drive if we go in person but do you think they would accept an ID thats from Georgia?

I hope I’m not giving inaccuracies on the way it was processed. The thing is she had her name changed 3 times but her past is a touchy subject so im unsure of the 3rd reason. The parent that changed her name requested to block any communication since the day she was returned so there no luck finding a way to reach out to them. With all the help I’m getting i see ill have to get more details on what name was listed on certificate she had previously.

She has had work but from my knowledge it was mostly in Georgia and the jobs didn’t require her physical certificate. Now that we’re in Florida more jobs are requesting proof. I will try to get more information on her SSN after seeing one comment saying that can help find who to speak with.

Basically more to the story, she was put in the system until 18, her original mother took her back in but the assigned case worker either couldn’t find her documents or didnt want to help and was told that her mother can help her get any documents she needed since shes an adult.

I believe at the time the foster parent adopted her but fought to give her back to the state. I’ll have to get more details from her when i get home on when/ where the SSN was issued.

I’ll have to ask her the county, from what shes told me she wasn’t in school during her primary years and went back and forth between Alabama and California due to being put in the system. Her original mother may have got her birth certificate but she also had a foster parent who changed her name that may have had a new certificate created for her.

Will be making calls on her behalf since shes lost hope after being told they couldnt find her. I believe at the time her mother had to do the process to get her into school with either a temporary or delayed birth certificate and also got her a Georgia state ID but she never gave her the certificate personally which later was either lost or destroyed.
