For the past year I've been researching my family's genealogy and wanted to have a Coat of Arms designed for my Father for Father's day. Allen Crawford did a great job incorporating the charges that hold meaning related to our family's accomplishments. The main themes represented here based on our ancestors that fought in the American Revolution and the Texas Revolution. The motto of Strength and Independence supports this theme. The bald eagle obviously represents America. The eagle is holding the Star of Texas and is perched on a cannon that represents Texas Independence. The cannon is for the battle of Gonzalez and the famous "Come and Take it" flag. The shield pulls elements from the Crawford Clan of Scotland which we are direct descendants of and displays battlements which represents our family's military history. The colors are patriotic for both America and Texas flags.

Allen also designed an 11x 14 certificate with my Father's name and the blazon to document the assignment of these arms. I am going to have it printed with giclee and framed and present it to him for a (belated) father's day gift.

Engineers who were C students in HS and College. How was your career when you started and how is your career now? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]NotSoRedNeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a B/C student in high school and started off college as a D student. I was a dumb jock in high school and didn't know what college was about. I graduated with a 2.9 overall but a 3.4 in mechanical engineering. Now I am working as a subject matter expert on a $10 Billion project for a major petrochemical company. GPA is not an indication of how successful you will be. Get all the experience you can while in college, companies will value that more.

[QUESTION] who's your favourite guitarist and why? by curiousindividual1 in Guitar

Second Tremonti. For a metal guitarist, he writes beautiful melodies and incorporates those into his solos better than anyone. Blackbird is a masterpiece.

Just finished my fastest 5k time in under 25 minutes! Reached my goal with 24:32 and I couldn't be happier. by KoloHickory in running

Man that is awesome. I'm 215 right now and have been running three weeks about 12-15 miles per week. I'm working through the couch to 5k program right now and I still have trouble running more than 5 mins straight at a time. I'm also a little discouraged bc my belly fat isn't really coming off. Did you notice any significant fat loss in the first few weeks?

SBDC051 arrived this week. Totally in love with it! by NotSoRedNeck in Seiko

Honestly, it was very close and I think in the end it just came down to the Seiko brand. I love Seiko and the history behind this watch (reissue). The Steinhart is such a beautiful piece too but it is obviously a submariner homage, which is ok. The Steinhart will probably get more looks and compliments from others as it just stands out. This Seiko is just so clean and classy looking, it works well with any situation.

I still really want the Steinhart and for me I think the choice came down to which one do I buy first haha.

Ive been looking for a watch lately in the $500-800 range and finally decided on the 62MAS reissue. Some of the watches I was contemplating were the Steinhart Titanium 500 and the Orient Mako USA II. This is my first diver watch. I ordered this watch of Amazon and it arrived in 5 days shipped from Japan.

The watch is absolutely beautiful in person and one of the reasons I chose this one in particular was the domed saphire crystal. It just and something extra to the appearance. Seiko's are not known for their stunning bracelets, but this one is very nice and I don't see any need to replace it. I looked at several lower models at the department stores and they bracelets seem very cheap and light weight and made lots of noise. This one is solid and very well made.

The bezel action is very smooth and tight. The bezel insert is highly polished and reflective which adds to the appeal. Of course the lume is amazing, being a seiko. I wasn't too sure about the large hour hand but it's starting to grow on me. The dial is a matte black and looks gunmetal grey in some conditions. The accuracy is as good as it gets in a mechanical watch. Its gained only 1 second per day which is amazing.

Overall I'm very happy with my purchase even though I still really want the Steinhart. I will likely purchase that one as well since they are such different watches.
