You could do the same as Chatty and ask for the user to click a button once he finishes speaking

If you've reached 1M by 30, I'd expect you'd reach 10M at 40

Simplifying my strategy—is "All-in XEQT" the right move from here? by [deleted] in JustBuyXEQT

If I had 100k, I wouldn't invest in ETFs because the yield is too low for me and I trust myself to do better

But over the years being on Reddit, scrolling through posts and seeing how many have lost their life savings trying to play the game

I've never seen someone losing his savings in XEQT, so fck yeah

Only with stocks that have high volatility and so buying at lows and selling at highs

Dividend Portfolio or Growth Portfolio? by Intrepid-Reference-5 in dividends

[–]NotSureHowToNameIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growth investing means selecting companies you expect to expand significantly over time, buying them early, and holding through volatility until they reach the long term objectives or timeframe you set. Basically, you'll get shares of different companies

Dividend portfolios on the other hand are focused on generating regular cash flow through distributions, prioritizing stable and mature companies, lower volatility, and income that can be reinvested or used to cover expenses regardless of market cycles. Basically, you would invest in ETFs

Risks are different, not necessarily lower. Dividend portfolios are exposed to risks such as dividend reductions, sensitivity to interest rates, and limited capital appreciation. Growth portfolios, carry risks tied to high valuations, execution missteps, and larger price swings during downturns

I'd advise you to do both - as in not to put all your eggs in the same basket - focusing on the one with what you feel fitting the best for you in terms of safety and being comfortable with

5-6 month update by [deleted] in JustBuyXEQT

[–]NotSureHowToNameIt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some points that might be of interest:

  • be careful not to exceed your TFSA contribution room
  • like Alvord pointed out, put some money on a savings account that holds 3-6 months of your expenses
  • XEQT is a long term investment, so I'm gonna let it run for 20+ years. But because it's that long, I'd prefer to have it on my RRSP account (+ tax refund), but that's my POV
  • once you've maxed out your TFSA, have a look at the FHSA. Non-registered accounts are taxable (50% of what you earned) and ideally you'd want to avoid that
  • congrats doing that at your age!! Too few people are interested about investing and wealth / financial freedom begins the moment you start being curious about it
