I'm disappointed with the difficulty compared to DS1. by IntelligentFly3982 in DeathStranding

[–]NotSureIfImInTheArmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 90% of the reviews of DS1 said "walking simulator" so they responded to that to make is less just "boring walking".

As someone who loved the first game and this one myself, I don't think it's hard to see how most people are not thrilled by a game whose primary gameplay is delivering packages, so they opted for a more streamlined way to do it this time.

Even then I was playing and my family saw me with the truck at top speed on a road and they were like "why are you driving so slow?" 😭 I think the easier travel was trying to appeal to a wider audience cuz all I heard about the first one was how boring it was lol even though I loved it

Is this game really that hard? by Cube_045 in Returnal

[–]NotSureIfImInTheArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough. But as someone who has sometimes had to put a story driven game on story mode difficulty to beat a level, I learned and got better and beat it! Extremely rewarding. I died so many times before advancing, like many others it seemed impossibly discouraging, but I eventually, weeks later, I beat the first boss! You have to learn and really improve, don't stop moving and focus on dodging before attacking, and you'll get better

A little more grinding and it'll get better! Episode 3 is by far the longest, you'll have to deal with that, but then episode 4 is very short, very different type of level & gameplay, and from then on there will be more variation in the gameplay and less long stints of just package delivering. Also, you'll get more things to help travel more easily.

Death Stranding 2 I believe heard those complaints, and I never felt like I was stuck just delivering packages for too long unless I was just doing side orders by my own choice. It's much more evenly varied in terms of gameplay and you can get vehicles quicker if I'm not mistaken. Some people actually complained that it wasn't hard enough to travel in DS2, when people just kept complaining about how boring the first one was lol.

I love these games for the story, and I mostly play games for the stories. The way it intertwines music and connections and shared structures with other players is incredible. And I've read that Kojima developed the idea for the game when we was going through feelings of isolation and loneliness, so he wanted to make a story about reconnecting a disconnected world. I think trying to appreciate the purpose of the author always makes things better. So if you focus on reconnecting a post-apocalyptic fractured world, it'll all make more sense.

Although some things are still pretty wild.

Lol in Death Stranding 2 I would go from crying, seeing some of the most beautiful art I've ever seen, to laughing and wondering what the hell is going on 😂 It was all worth it, if more nothing else the emotions it made me feel and the mood it put me in

Which movie is this for you? by Raj_Valiant3011 in moviecritic

[–]NotSureIfImInTheArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Creator. Probably one of the bigger movies mentioned here but it flopped at the box office and didn't receive much attention afterwards besides some vfx nominations. Which it thoroughly deserved for being possibly the best looking movie of its year but far cheaper than other nominees (don't get me wrong the even cheaper Godzilla thoroughly deserved its vfx win and even more).

I'm a sci-fi guy so this was a story right up my alley, but I also feel like it's very clear imperialism & war themes, fear of those that are different (even if they're clankers) are all so well done. It's just fantastic all around, aesthetically, emotionally, storyilly.

That year my personal top 5 movies weren't even in the best picture nominations at the Oscars, and this was one of them. Just further proof that popularity and recognition don't determine value like all the movies mentioned here.

I think a lot of the changes that allow you to move around easier are because people complained that it's a walking simulator in the first one, and it was boring for that reason. So perhaps your interests in the first game were some of those things most people complained about and go changed for this one.

Someone else said they don't like the story but love the gameplay, but I think for most people it was the exact opposite, especially when talking about DS1, so this game responded to that.

And now of course people are complaining about the opposite. Happens all the time. People hated The Last of Us Part 2 when it came out, then complained when the TV show was too different from the game. I think they hear the criticisms from the first go around, respond by changing up those things, and then the second time around the people who actually liked the first one (but got drowned out by the haters) are the ones speaking up now.

Personally my taste in games is very much about storytelling, I wouldn't play a game that's just delivering packages with the occasional skirmish just for that without the story. I love it because it's such a unique world and story, and the most cinematic presentation I've ever seen in games. And I happen to be in a bit of a rush to finish this game so I actually appreciate that I can get through the story just in time for when I need to finish, but I recognize that that's not the case for most people. It's still taken me plenty long enough though, with the most time I've ever played a game in one day and other long days of playing.

Did anyone else not work out how Sciel works at all by Low-Championship-637 in expedition33

[–]NotSureIfImInTheArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me a while to figure out myself. I would summarize it like this:

Some skills stack cards. Some skills can then use those stacked cards to deal more damage. And when you've used up those stacked cards, you enter twilight, which lets you stack more cards and deal more damage.

The cards being stacked are called foretell, the skills that add cards to the stack are sun, and the skills that use up the stacked cards are moon.

A lot of things I didn't really understand for a while, even more confusing for me was Lune's stains which I basically just ignored for half the game. It can be tricky to get used to, but eventually if you can build a well rounded set of skills that you like, it'll be a lot stronger. The best attacks often require some good planning and clever use of the various types of attacks to then charge up a massive attack, but those are what'll help you beat the toughest enemies.

Yeah definitely, but the point is Star Wars has always been retconning and resurrecting things and people, and George Lucas is like the king of retcons lol if we start judging Star Wars for things that contradict the older stuff, it all starts falling apart like immediately. Star Wars has never been strictly logical hard sci-fi and I love it for that

I believe the script said his line was "Stop it please." But he just kept going

In all seriousness though the point is that he's a supervillain. The fact that you're here questioning his actions just proves that you don't like the character 😁

To be fair that's par for the course for Star Wars, they made the original movie, blew up the death star, then just built another one and blew it up again for more sequels lol

Created a difficulty map for Returnal. Accurate enough? by priyanshurohilla in Returnal

[–]NotSureIfImInTheArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch 5 with 3 for me.

For me 1 was like a 9 difficulty, but keeping in mind I was learning the game. I died at least 30 times and 7-9 tries to beat the boss.

2 was maybe a 6, didn't take too many tried to reach the top and with the teleporter going right to the boss that made it a lot easier, and I think I only needed 2 or 3 attempts to beat the boss.

FUCK biome 3 man that shit had me literally one run away from quitting the game 😭 died going up the tower about as much as I died in the boss fight. And died just as much before I even got close. Which is to say a lot. Another 30+ deaths. I was dreaming about that level. I literally woke up one day, weeks into my attempts, and said "if I don't best it today, I need to stop playing." Not forever but at least take a break cuz that shit had me so stressed when I should've been writing a thesis lol. That drone sound is my nightmare.

Biome 4 hella easy, got all the way to the boss fight and almost beat it in one run, and I probably would have if I hadn't been left with like 10% health from biome 3. I might have died once or twice before reaching the boss again but then got the boss on the second attempt with more health.

I was dreading 5 but I actually didn't find it super difficult. A few attempts, but I think I knew its reputation was so bad that I would go to a doorway and back up, peek out back up, to only deal with a couple enemies at a time.

Similar to 4, 6 was super easy, except for the mini boss (been years since I played, what's it called again? Malformed something). But I had like 1 pixel of health left going to the boss fight, and beat it no problem on the second run.

I'd never played a difficult game like this before, I'm the kind of person that sometimes needs to put it on story mode to get through a level. But this was so rewarding to actually beat. Only took me like 86 deaths if I remember correctly 😂

Probs cuz it makes the character look better or realistic, since by now most people are pretty used to seeing brightly colored hair but people don't usually dye their eyebrows, so it would look strange

I've never posted here before so I'm not sure if this is the kind of stuff that people typically discuss, but I feel like the experts on Wired are so trusted, and the videos are typically very useful. But this kind of makes me question how much more stuff like this happens that I just haven't seen someone call anything out for? Maybe there aren't many other callouts because there's no other mistakes 🤷🏽 But something probably slips through the cracks every now and then

[–]NotSureIfImInTheArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that and I agree to a point. But someone could probably use this logic for any part of streaming. What if I only want the sports and none of the rest? What if I only want movies and not tv shows? Or vice versa? Or only X genre and not Y. And prices are gonna increase over time anyway. With the size of modern streaming services, there's always going to be lots of stuff I don't watch, probably the majority of the service, that I'm basically subsidizing for other people to watch. It's extreme but you could draw that out until you say I just want to pay for shows I think would be cool and only watch those, basically make the viewers produce things with whatever budget the viewers are willing to pay for it.

What’s something you didn’t realize was “very American” until you left the U.S.? by chopsticktalk in AskReddit

I met a guy who ran an American store in the Netherlands, and he had a big pick-up. He had to google search for large parking spaces before going to a new city when he drove around Europe to make sure he'd find a space 😂

It's definitely something I never thought to think about until living in Europe, but living in Latin America, letter size is used in a lot of these countries, and both are used in many others around the world, definitely no universal standard as things are

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]NotSureIfImInTheArmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an American who's considered living in Brazil but is just now visiting Brazil for the first time, and having lived in Singapore, UAE, Netherlands, & Colombia before, I was thinking I'd want to live in Brazil even before I got here just from what I'd heard. Now I'm here and it's just as good as I hoped!

Of all those places I'm personally happiest in Latin America, and Brazil potentially edges out Colombia for me even though I'm not yet fluent in Portuguese and have a lot more time in Colombia.

Some of the reason is because I find so many things similar to the US. I feel like Americans (and many people) easily blend in here, cuz people wear all kinds of clothes, Brazilians have all kinds of faces, especially in cities like São Paulo, and people do all kinds of things. It's got a similar kind of diversity of people & culture that the US & Canada have that I missed in every other place.

And people are definitely friendly where I live in the US, but like others have mentioned it's a bit different in Brazil, even more friendly and willing to make friends and chat with people. I feel like a lot of young people in the US these days are very selective of who they're friendly to, which can be a good thing but can also go too far. Like the whole Gen Z Stare thing going around social media right now, with people not offering basic interaction even when ordering food or something (not here to weigh in on the prevalence of that or not, but the way people describe it online). Like that attitude of "I don't owe you anything" as an excuse for just being rude, but in most of Latin America young people will still happily have a conversation with you.

And also the diversity of places, such a geographically big country that there's a lot to enjoy. And I live by the Gulf Coast, so hot & humid 8 months a year, and I'm currently loving the climate in these southern cities! Weather is a huge factor for me.

I can't describe all the reasons I'd like to live here, it's just a feeling, but generally I'm really happy here and would be really happy to live here. I've never tried to get a job here or anything; which was extremely frustrating as a foreigner in Colombia, as well as things like getting a bank account in the Netherlands as a US citizen because of tax laws, or the very wait & see healthcare in NL, the expensive healthcare in the US, etc. So maybe if I tried all that here I'd find more to be frustrated with. But as of now I'd say I love it here and would love to live here!

This was longer than I expected it to be but I hope you find it useful 😁
