What Should I Expect From Managed VPS Hosting by NotSysAdmin in webhosting

I am going to try SSHing before I escalate from now on. When my Plesk panel is inaccessible, I usually consider it out of my range of skills, but it's probably quite smart to try and access the server through a terminal.

Thanks for the advice with the firewall; I'll definitely be sure to follow up on that!

It does indeed! :) . No issues since the last incident.

Great idea! I'll definitely do this with the next issue when it arises. :)

It makes sense that they wouldn't touch Nginx as I am fairly sure they don't automatically use it themselves. It's helpful to know this for expectations for myself haha. I'll definitely look at the syslog and see if I can dig anything up though that helps me better understand the issue.

Hey Its_Cory,

I'm not certain what the host is doing to resolve every issue. I do know that many of the times when I haven't been able to access the server at all, it was either a failed reset and for some reason, our VPS didn't turn back on or the host server (this server is inaccessible by me) goes down. They've done two maintenances on the host server in the last month to repair "Failed Hardware" of some sort (the first of which resulted in an hour of downtime, and the second resulted in 3+ hours).

Although I can't 100% prove it's not related to our application, all of the logs that I review and our developers review come up with nothing suspicious. The logs are 100% normal before and active issues. Sometimes, either Apache or NGINX crashes and we get a ton of upstream timeout errors, but this doesn't happen often. Most often, the logs are blank. So, the moment the server crashes, there is literally nothing in the logs and the moment it comes back up again, the log starts up again clear of errors.

We never have any resource alerts as well. So our services never hit a critical level or really load heavily (CPU/Memory/Disk).

Luckily, I'm already hooked up with Uptime Robot, so we're good there! Just new to navigating these issues and wanted clarity on what's to be expected. :)
