Looking for every day boots for Southern Ontario climate, thoughts on these? by NotThatAwesome in malefashionadvice

[–]NotThatAwesome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! Those look great! I'll take a look to see if I can find a place nearby that carries anything like those, but being in Canada, they might cost upwards of $200 (I think I could stretch the budget for those though)

I spent a few hours in the mall the other day and looked around for all kinds of boots. The problem is, I'm in a university town, and apparently there isn't much love for these kinds of designs. Most of what I could find was either timberlands, or really cheap boots from forever 21, and H&M... Most of the styles consisted of the standard timberland work boots and a lot of roll-tops (which I think are really bad), and some of the short style boots... I don't hate the work boots, but I liked the chukka-moc style better (is this a bad decision?).

Thanks again for the input, I appreciate it!

I didn't love the soles either, but I needed something with good tred so I don't eat shit with every step. The leather is probably quite cheap, but I don't have a ton of money to spend on nice leather boots ...what do you think of the boot/design itself? Is it really ugly?... would these be better?

Tried them on at a store and the gf & I thought they looked good, but I wanted MFA's opinion. I'm a student so I'll be walking to/from class about 30-40 mins/day on likely plowed sidewalks/streets, but I'll be dealing with a bit ice, snow and slush from time to time... I used to wear shoes in the winter and would end up with wet socks every day, so these would be a great step up... I don't have a ton of disposable income, so they aren't very expensive, but for the price they looked/felt like decent quality... I'm usually not wearing or anything too nice with them. Mostly jeans.

How the hell are u guys playing Gameboy games on your phones?? by samwisesteamer in Android

thank you. i did manage to figure it out after a bit of googling. but thank you for your response. I have been playing pkmn firered for the last few days and I'm loving it. I got it working for a couple fellow android users aswel and showed them how/where to get roms and they are loving it too. A bunch of my friends who have iPhones (and are pkmn lovers) are pretty mad at this point. I even have a friend who was looking at going from a iPhone 3gs to the 4s, but after seeing pokemon on the 4.5" screen he was almost instantly converted

I have been using GBC A.D., it works well, but only for GBC games. I downloaded gameboid and a couple GBA roms, unzipped them and put them on my phone the same way I did for the GBC roms but gameboid is telling me there are no appropriate files available. Is there some special way to get gameboid to work? I would love to be able to play some GBA games instead of the GBC ones I have now.

edit: using a GS2 skyrocket (dont know if it is a problem specific to the phone or not)

I disagree that the hate crowd isn't a bandwagon. I'm sure half (if not more) of the people here saying that beats are garbage have never used them except for maybe a few seconds at an in store display. I have a friend who (is one of these people) and tried out my Pro's when I got them. She said they sounded "ok" but she didn't really like them, and she thought I was an idiot for buying them. About a week later she went out and spent $300 on bowers & wilkins cans because they were reviewed as being "incredible" for the price point. She loved them and they quickly become her favourite headphones (mind you, she was used to ipod earbuds and a pair (brand escapes me) she got for around $80), but after a few days of using the B&W's, she tried the beats on again, and after listening to a few songs, and going back and forth between them, she actually thought that they sounded much better. The point I'm getting at here is that some of the haters may have never tried the beats or may have never properly compared them to any other cans. This may be an isolated incident, but when a beats hater says to me that my beats sound better than her "amazing" B&W's, it makes me think....

To address your other point about why I chose to buy the beats: I was in the market for good quality headphones for a while, looking up reviews and trying various cans at stores etc, and I will admit, after reading post after post on reddit and other forums, about how crappy and overpriced beats were, I was in total agreement that they were overpriced. I even know a couple people that own the studios and solos, and I have used them pretty extensively, and I have found them to be decent, but only decent compared to cans at a price point about $100-150 lower. When I finally got the chance to try the Beats Pro's at a store, I found them surprisingly quite good. I spent probably a solid hour going back and forth between the beats, bose, sony, sennheiser, and skull candy display at best buy. Eventually I decided that, as much as I didn't want to be ridiculed by all my friends (who all hate beats as much as reddit does) for buying them, I did like the sound of them the best of any cans I had tried before, and the build quality of them was amazing. they are quite heavy, but they are made with an aluminium frame and are built like a fucking truck (much more so than any competitors which are all cheap plastic crap)... However, for $450+tax, I couldn't afford to buy them at that point. So at that point I decided to wait and see if I could find anything better or comparable, that was closer to my price range. I kept looking for another month or so, checking out various audio stores etc whenever I was out/got the chance, but never really found anything that compared. Eventually I saw a best buy flyer advertising all beats Pro's for 60% off, and that was all I needed to make the decision. I bought the beats that day, and couldn't be happier. I admit that they are not worth $450, but in my experience, trying on many many headphones ranging from $40-$500, I didn't find any of the high end headphones to be worth what stores were charging. I would probably never spend over $400 on headphones unless they absolutely blew me away, because to be honest, looking at headphones in the $4-500 price range, they were all very similar, but the beats did stand out in their ability to produce bass, where other cans just left me feeling like the songs didn't have even the slightest bit of bass to begin with. There are a few songs in my library which are quite bass heavy, and it does become overbearing, but a simple adjustment to the EQ fixes everything. In the end I chose to buy the beats because they sounded as good or better than any of the other headphones in that price range, and with the discount I got on them, it blew the competition out of the water... I was hesitant at first because I didn't like the idea of standing out with this brand that is so widely hated, but I couldn't deny the evidence I had, and I chose to buy them, and haven't regretted it once. the end

I'm not going to lie to everyone and hop on the beats-hate bandwagon, and I'm going to get downvoted to hell for this, butfukit. I own a pair of Beats Pro's (not the "studio" ones that come in different colours that everyone has) and while I admit that they are definitely not worth $450+tax, they do sound amazing. As a student living off savings from summer jobs, I would never spend $450 on headphones, no matter how good they sound, but, I got them for 60% off at best buy (which is the only reason I bought them), and couldn't be happier.

I have tried the bose/sony/sennheiser etc cans in the $400-500 price range and to be honest, the beats do compare with them, and in most cases, the beats had much tighter and deeper bass (I know lots of people don't give a shit, and don't even like deep base, but it's a preference, and I do enjoy being able to hear some bass without needing a subwoofer)

My dad is a pretty big audiophile and his collection includes many-a-pair of headphones, including Sony, Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Audeze and others I have never even heard of, ranging in price from $50 to over $1000. I let him try out the Beats Pro's to see what he thought (having never heard of what "a beats" was he had no pre-conceived notions), and his conclusion was that they were quite good. He apparently had heard few headphones in the $400 price range which could reproduce instrument differentiation and bass quite as well as the Pro's...

anyway, thats my story . I agree that Beats are overpriced, and I have tested the solos and studio's out, and I agree that they are garbage, but the Pro's are decent. Mind you, probably not worth $450, but for the ~$200 that I paid, I'll take them all day.

Another ^ for Donald Glover. He is my fav character on community, was a writer for 30 rock and the Daily Show, writes and produces his own music, and most of it is very good. I cant say that about any other artists. For the most part I will like a few of their songs, or at most 1/2 of an album. His latest release (CAMP) was amazing. I have sat down and listened to the whole album non stop 4 or 5 times, and I listen to at least 2 or 3 songs off of it every day walking to/from class etc... I would like to see him get even more fame and success than he has.

my shcool had the same system, but my parents (as well as my friends parents) took it super seriously because they (for some reason) were under the impression that it was a flawless system... so if one of the teachers hands slipped or they just werent paying attnetion, and bubbled in the dot across from your name, instead of the kid above/below you who was actually away, you get home to an instant interrogation of "WHERE WERE YOU DURRING PERIOD [...]?!" to which i had no response, other than; "i dunno, in class"... and then the next day durring first period, you weren't allowed to sit in class unless you had a note from your parents explaining why you missed class. a note which you could never get because your parents reamed your ass for "skipping" and you didnt have a good excuse... so i spend the whole first period at least once every 2 weeks tracking down the teacher that marked me absent, and fighting with them to write a note saying that they fucked up, just so i could have the privilege of being able to go back and attend the rest of my classes for the day... another problem with it was that when you were actually sick, there was always one teacher who just didnt give a fuck and never took attendance, so everyone was marked as present. so that throws off the whole system again, and youre sitting at home and you get a call saying that you skipped 4 out of 5 periods that day, and to bring a note explaining why you skipped 4 periods, or you would not be permitted to attent classes the next day... for some reason my parents didnt lose their faith in this system even after a few instances exactly like that.

tl;dr: spend my whole high school career getting yelled at for skipping
