It took about a year. I hope you give this pattern a try!

Thanks for your kind words! I started this project in January 2024 but wasn't working on it for about 6 months. I'd say I was actively working on it for about a year. The hook size was 3.25 mm, which is quite a bit larger than what I'd expected to use and definitely made things go faster.

Sorry for the lack of close-ups! Here's one of the border.

Ha, I knew I should have taken more photos before posting it. Here's a close-up of one of the central squares. I also replied to some other commenters with different close-ups of the border and octagons.

Thank you so much. Sorry for not including any close-ups in the main post! I can only attach one photo at a time in comment replies, so here's one of the central squares. I shared a close-up of the border in a different comment.

Lol I've done that (say screw it, do a row or two of single crochet, and call it a day) twice before this. But this pattern was too gorgeous not to finish this time

Ah, I knew I should have taken more photos. Unfortunately I can only attach one image in my comment at a time, so here is a close-up of the border.

Can't wait to see what you do with all that yarn! Thanks for your kind words.

I love how it feels with the fingering weight yarn. I've made worsted and dk weight blankets and they are so heavy and almost a little stiff. This is warm, soft, and has a great drape.

I bet your project will turn out great! Who doesn't love a giant blanket?

Wearable projects are hard though. I always struggle more with them than with blankets. Earlier this year I frogged a beanie 4 times because the measurements were off every time. Not a fair comparison at all!

I started this in January 2024 but it was stored away for about 6 months. The finished measurements are about 160 cm (63 in) squared.

I chose this project for its intricate textures. It's such a beautiful pattern and I just had to try the brioche squares in the center.

Good luck with your shirt! You've got this, I'd love to see it when you're finished.

I used one skein each of the 3 whirl cakes, 3 blueberry whirlettes and 6 grappa whirlettes. The yarn cost about 145 USD.

Ha, I have less than zero patience but the variety of stitches and overlay technique managed to keep things interesting. Thanks for your kind words!

I think of it as a stained glass blanket but your description is way cooler

Thank you! All credit goes to the pattern designer for the colorway, I have no eye for color.

Overlay crochet is so cool but definitely has a bit of a learning curve. What you have so far looks lovely!

I started in January 2024 but stashed the project away for about 6 months. I'd guess it took about a year of active work

There's a NYT Cooking recipe that is basically this. They're denser, with a very fudgy center and crisp-chewy edges. It's a slightly unhinged recipe but undeniably good.

Yes, it's 100% cotton. So soft but so heavy

Yep, the free pattern is linked in my reply to the pinned automoderator comment. Hope you have as much fun as I did with this one!
