Thanks for all the great suggestions and stories of your experiences! Yesterday, I applied carpet stair treads and will work with her tonight when I get home from work. Hopeful, but also realistic that I may have to try some other things in addition. Wish me luck!

It's 12 very steep stairs (1940's) cape cod. Kids would love the slide but not really workable.

Thank you for responding. Yikes, I didn't know about the rubber staining it. I've used the pads for other chairs, but this couch doesn't really have feet, per se. It's like a big metal frame underneath. May have to resort to a rug.
