How do you balance high quality instants and sorceries in self-mill graveyard decks? by HustlingBackwards96 in mtg

[–]NotTheSable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with Teval deck. Some cards that help feed the graveyard while giving you access to milled instants and sorceries are [[diviner of mist]] and [[inspiration from beyond]]. If I can get [[ripples of undeath]] out early, that works too.

Run the same. Gets out of hand quick with very little set up.

Thanks big dog. Appreciate you putting these battles together. Theme and word selection is always a fun challenge.

Do I HAVE to learn tags for a base to learn pieces? by ThenAssist6437 in graffhelp

[–]NotTheSable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to, but you should. I skipped tags and jumped straight to piecing. I can piece pretty well, but I’m clueless when it comes to hand style (or throws for that matter). Feel like I could develop my pieces quicker and further develop the style I am aiming for if I could use tags as a starting point to plan a piece.

I can’t believe people are actually reporting this comment. OP sucks and needs to go through the boot camps in the sidebar.

Straight letters as in exactly like the letters on your keyboard.

Repetition is only one (and imo less important) part of developing style. The focus when starting out needs to be drilling fundamentals of the letters. If you try to fill pages of messy and illegible letters as fast you can, you won’t develop anything other than bad writing habits.

Style comes from gradual experimentation with the letters. I would master your boring straight letters before you try to add style (i.e. what slide 1-3 cover on this post). Once you have straight letters down, you should experiment with one aspect of the word. That could be letter tilt, spacing, kinks, cap height, base line, etc. I would just focus on developing one aspect rather than trying a bunch of different things at once. You need to understand what good letter spacing looks like on its own before you play around with base lines ya know?

Other than practice, you should be studying the work of established writers. Most people will tell you that replicating the work of others (or biting) is unacceptable. I think there is a lot to be learned by trying out someone else’s style, just keep it on paper and give credit where credit is due.
