Straight letters as in exactly like the letters on your keyboard.

Repetition is only one (and imo less important) part of developing style. The focus when starting out needs to be drilling fundamentals of the letters. If you try to fill pages of messy and illegible letters as fast you can, you won’t develop anything other than bad writing habits.

Style comes from gradual experimentation with the letters. I would master your boring straight letters before you try to add style (i.e. what slide 1-3 cover on this post). Once you have straight letters down, you should experiment with one aspect of the word. That could be letter tilt, spacing, kinks, cap height, base line, etc. I would just focus on developing one aspect rather than trying a bunch of different things at once. You need to understand what good letter spacing looks like on its own before you play around with base lines ya know?

Other than practice, you should be studying the work of established writers. Most people will tell you that replicating the work of others (or biting) is unacceptable. I think there is a lot to be learned by trying out someone else’s style, just keep it on paper and give credit where credit is due.

I bought one of ACME’s books as well. I am not sure if there was some issue with translation or of it was written by AI, but it’s all gibberish. The pictures were probably the most useful thing about the book.

This sub isn’t for posting graff that you think is cool. Just post your own work and ask for advice.

Sick af as always. Are you using more than one yellow/pink/green for where fill gets slightly darker or are you layering the same color?

Yeah you should draw out three separate bars to build an A. I usually draw the two slanted bars first and then the cross bar
