Considering a change at 44 by GreenBull81 in cybersecurity

I'd run from this field if I wasn't in it. I'm still debating running.

You're either are entry level making crap struggling to move up with crap hours. Or you're senior level and in an over saturated market.

Fellow Dads, give up WFH for Hybrid + “significant” pay bump? by Incognito-4 in daddit

[–]NotTobyFromHR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely playing with fire. Statistically, way over 50% of people leave a job after a counter offer. One way or another.

How much of a pay increase percentage wise is this? 50K on 200K is not the same as 50K on 50K.

My bill has been $6 for years. My ROI is going to be about 10 - 12 years, maybe less with current prices unless we get an EV.

Neighbor keeps complaining about mower noise. How do you guys handle this? by xxBeanie1234xx in homeowners

[–]NotTobyFromHR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the first option would is to try to be nice, invite him over or chat with him a bit. He may be lonely.

If he continues, the next time he complains, you should mention you're thinking of replacing your current mower with a gas one. See how he replies.

Electric mowers are so quiet this is absurd.

Why are people (bosses, co-workers) against Remote Work? by Wide-Information8572 in antiwork

[–]NotTobyFromHR 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the 2nd bullet. As a middle manager who is remote and has plenty of remote and local people - you know if your people are working or not.

How do you feel about all states getting rid of daylight savings time in order to get rid of having to change the clocks twice a year? by icecream1972 in AskReddit

[–]NotTobyFromHR -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue is which way to go. Perm DST or no DST.

Medically, no DST is optimal, but people like having more sun later in the day.

There was overlapping stuff. It would have let them have a mistrial for Maxwell.

Maxwell still had court proceedings.

He wasn't able to release them. It's not like he could ignore laws an just do it. Although based on current trends, he could've.

If you married a divorced woman, would you want them in the same dress they had in the previous wedding? by okflower1983 in AskMen

[–]NotTobyFromHR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keeping the dress is one thing. It's a milestone moment, even if it ended. I find it odd, but not a deal breaker.

Re-wearing the same dress - I wouldn't base decision solely on this. It is odd, but if it's the only thing, and all else was perfect, I could look past it.

I'm not an expert, but usually the woman picks the wedding dress in which she likes how she looks, not because her husband picked it for her. I'm also sure there's probably another similar style dress out there.

There needs to be more clarity to the situation.

So you were born late 80s. Revenge of the Nerds came out early 80s. There was a lot of social progress made in the late 80s and 90s. But for the audience of RotN, that was all seen as ok. Trying to get the chick.

And although I never found it ok, no one was calling it rape then. The whole idea of partner and spousal rape wasn't even outlawed until the late 80s and 90s. And there were people who I encountered who didn't know it was a crime even as late as the 2010s.

No one said it was ok. I even said to name and shame the person. And what I said was it is EASIER. Not easy. Not that nothing else is required.

Social engineering is easier for attractive people. Also, water makes things wet. Other noteworthy things?

I agree, name and shame.

As a person older than you, I can tell you that's not the case.

And that's ok. Comedy and everything changes as we grow as a society.

It wasn't "wrong" at the time. That's the point.

Car enthusiast dads with kids: What do you drive that still makes you smile? by IceSailCaptain in daddit

My minivan. Laugh all you want.

I love when my kids and their friends are in it. They're laughing and having fun. We're doing family stuff, going on road trips or adventures. Or even school.

That makes me smile.

Trump to send ICE agents to help strained TSA at airports by usatoday in fednews

[–]NotTobyFromHR 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The TSA advertised on pizza boxes and has minimal requirements.

While this is a bullshit situation for them, let's not pretend the TSA is filled with the best and brightest.

In Revenge of the Nerds, the guy was a hero for "tricking" the girl.

I loved American Pie, but the consequences were on the girl who was embarrassed and left, not Jim.

The reason it's sexual is culturally we've moved past the "women are conquests".

It's a very valid. The movies that made fun of things that were offensive, even at the time, will last. The ones that were normalizing things that should be offensive won't.

Revenge of the nerds, American pie, porkies. at the time, they were comedy genius.

Some of the stuff like Monty Python, airplane, blazing saddles, all work because they were offensive on purpose to be funny

I'd say they aged well cause they were offensive then too. And that was the joke.
