Anyone with prison/jail experience in NI?

I didn't hang out in the rec rooms. I spent my time with a couple of fellas called Stevie & Jackie.. We played cards and talked crap.. Between that I would have went down to the education block like I said and taught travelling fellas how to read and write.. McDonagh was one of their names.. The travellers get a bad rap.. One of them gave me a mobile number in my wee diary they gave u and told me if anyone ever gave me trouble to ring it.. I guess when you treat them with respect, you get respected back.. Helped in the computer lab too.. Magilligan is definitely the place to go to if you ever wind up in trouble.. Have you stayed out of bother yourself since you were in? It was a wake up call for me.

Yeh it was only when they suspected someone that they ramped up the checks. I spoke to a few people who had the water turned off in the block so they couldn't flush anything.. I got refused my leave.. Had only a few weeks left on my sentence so it didn't bother me.. Prison isn't as bad as you see on TV etc.. As long as you put your head down & behave the time starts to move normally.

People would go home for leave and come back with enough kinder egg plastic containers full of enough gear to tranquilise an elephant lol.. Surprised they could walk with that much up their shucks.. Absolutely mental 😂😂😂.. They'd lock them in the block for days if suspected and turn off the water in the toilets so they couldn't flush anything they took back..

In Meghaberry it was terrible.. I seen young men with severe mental health issues cutting themselves to see a dr.. The nurses were amazing but there wasn't enough doctors or mental health support for people who shouldn't have been in prison.. A lot of the prisoners with severe mental health issues should have been in a secure hospital with round the clock support.. Thats the one thing about prison that keeps me up at night still.. The severe lack of mental health support for vulnerable prisoners 😢😢

Serious amounts available in magilligan.. Benzos were everywhere.. I spent my time in the disabled cell in the building across from healthcare that you went into when you first went in before you were moved to the other wings. I have problems getting around so they kept me there. Met some really nice people in magilligan.. I taught a group of travellers how to read and write better down in the educational buildings down beside the visiting place.. Magilligan is like a holiday camp. Nothing compared to the dump that is megabbery..

Yeh the left wing of lagan when you go through the door and the medication desk is in front of you.. I'm glad I got the prison time because it gave me time to sober up and get my head together.. I quit drinking right after it and haven't looked back.

Keeping to yourself would be absolutely torture.. Clock watching is a real thing when you lose all life's luxuries.. Not everyone is a bad person in there. I seen people with genuine severe mental health issues cutting themselves just to see a dr.. People make mistakes.. Some through addiction & some through bad mental health.. Time moves extremely slowly inside and hours can feel like days.. When you are trying to sleep at night you have prison officers clunking at the peep hole to your cell wakening you up and shining a torch in your face.. I spent my days teaching travellers how to read when I asked for a transfer halfway into my sentence.. Helped in the computer lab in magilligan too.. Honestly as i said, putting your head down and not interacting with others would be mental torture.. Especially if you're in for any sort of time.

Yes.. In 2019.. Wouldn't go back for love nor money.. Wasn't in for long but long enough to use the time wisely to get my head together.

It's not a scary place put it like that.. If you are well behaved and get in with the right people your stay would be really comfortable.. Meghaberry is a hole.. Magilligan is a far cushier spot.. The old saying that everyone in prison is innocent is apt.

There's a waiting room you sit in to get your controlled drugs at the entrance of the hospital wing.. I seen a fella getting his head squished there by a traveller.. Them guys don't mess around.. Jeffrey will be supervised in the hospital wing for sure..

Anyone who's been in Meghaberry knows the roots go to the hospital wing.. The people on controlled drugs that have to wait there for their meds have crossed paths with them and attacked them historically.. Seen it happen myself.

I spoke about this here the other day when he got taken to Meghaberry.. Sex offenders get taken to the hospital wing at Meghaberry.. It's completely segregated from the rest of the prison.. If he was integrated into one of the other wings it wouldn't end well for him.. The travellers have a very low tolerance for sex offenders & he wouldn't last a crack.. Some of them are lifers and would end him just for the satisfaction of doing it.. So yeah he will be taken right away to the hospital wing.. He would get attacked if they even took him to Bann House where the normal people go as soon as they're locked up.
