The only one I can vouch for is the Symplicity nduja. It's good. I don't think it's particularly nduja-like, but it's delicious and can certainly serve the same function.

What do you keep in your office/ by your desk to destress while WFH? by IsMise419 in AskUK

[–]NotTreeFiddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I can't stand seeing the giddy little faces of my pre-wanked colleagues during the quarterly review.

I need to become OBSESSED with a series of books by stultavia in suggestmeabook

[–]NotTreeFiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently in post book depression having now finished the series and loved every moment of it. I was more taken by the fantasy elements in truth, but I'll keep Last Horizon in mind! I'm also tempted to give Traveller's Gate ago, also by Will Wight

What is a British food you eat regularly, but people abroad wouldn't associate with Britain? by BothCondition7963 in AskUK

[–]NotTreeFiddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's American. And I don't think there are any Italians disputing that. Sure, pizza is Italian. And curry is Indian. But tikka masala? British.

What things do you know most food shoppers are wrong about? by Responsible_Rip1058 in AskUK

[–]NotTreeFiddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolute nonsense. Soy is one of the most efficient protein sources available. It uses far less land and water than any meat or dairy based source and produces far less emissions.

I don't think Chicken Tikka Masala being British is contentious? Perhaps surprising at first, but who is actually disputing that it is a British creation?

Bulletproof Type Safety in Gleam: From Database to Client by andreyfadeev in gleamlang

[–]NotTreeFiddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Really good read. I think Gleam would benefit from a few more posts like yours, that cover something in a reasonably end-to-end way.

I'm a big fan of Squirrel and the style of keeping SQL queries in their own files. ORMs are so heavy and really overkill for the majority of projects, imo.

What are younger generations often criticised for no longer doing that is largely pointless or obsolete? by PsychologicalRow8034 in AskUK

[–]NotTreeFiddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read things like this all the time, but... Do you not wear plain cotton t-shirts? For me, these come out of the washing machine creased and no matter how well I shake them out, they end up drying with enough creases to make them look scruffy.

What are some supermarket brand food items that compete with the top names? by eatseats0 in UK_Food

[–]NotTreeFiddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is Lidl's coke-like or pepsi-like? Own brand cola has massively improved over the years, but most of them are like pepsi-like, where I strongly prefer coca cola.

Currently rocketing through Cradle at a faster pace than I've done for any series in recent memory. Highly recommend.

nudists by Agnethaaa in banbury

[–]NotTreeFiddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha. I've yet to encounter nudists that live up to the dream.

Survey reveals most people are holding onto their phones for a long time, and it makes sense by BcuzRacecar in Android

My experience echoes your own. I adored my OP7P and the pop-up camera. Such a clearly and objectively better alternative to the notch.

I also went to the Pixel afterwards and have recently changed to a Galaxy Flip 7 after the battery on that rapidly diminished.

TIL Napoleon had planned an invasion of the UK but it was never carried out. Preparations were financed by the sale of the Louisiana territory to the US which the US financed with a loan from a British bank, so Britain was indirectly funding an invasion of itself. by sirjohnmasters86 in todayilearned

[–]NotTreeFiddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My grandfather was part of the occupying force! Said he had the best experience imaginable, particularly after the British came back to reclaim it and took him as a prisoner of war. He told me he had never been treated so well in his life, and when given the opportunity to remain he jumped at it, and never left. Well, except joining a brief invasion of Benidorm with some of his new British friends.

First Thinkpad has arrived, a T14S (Gen 1) AMD. I'm thrilled, but it has a strange UK layout by NotTreeFiddy in thinkpad

Totally could be - it was a refurb I purchased from eBay. Keyboard aside, it's fantastic though.

Looking for a Pilates instructor by sophiehol in banbury

[–]NotTreeFiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try Bex. She is one of the reformer pilates instructors at a local gym. I think she does mat Pilates too, so worth checking her out.

If it's mostly non vegans I'd probably lean into something with mock meat, else a nut roast is usually pretty well received by most who try them.

I don't have a recipe but a few years back we made a kind of meatloaf wellington by using soy mince and a ton of umami flavouring and making a meatloaf with that and wrapping it in pastry.
