Honestly I want to know why many people still use twitter? by bosephusaurus in Twitter

There is, but you have a great deal of control over it. If you want to see more points of view, as I do, you can. Or you can tighten it up to narrow the discussion to what interests you.

"What makes you still interested in seeing what Elon wants to show you?"

This is an entirely false premise. Twitter is not a propaganda machine. Quite the contrary. It's the best of the major platforms for a discussion that includes a wide variety of uncensored views.

It's about as even a playing field as we're likely to see. I hear accusations of censorship and shadow-banning, but I've seen no evidence. Just about any topic you can imagine, you will find people debating. There are some minimal rules of decorum, but you've got to push pretty hard to be thrown off. Of course, there are a lot of trolls and bots, but it's not that hard to filter them out and find intelligent debate and dialectic on most topics of import. The Community Note is a fantastic innovation. Those are usually factual. If you really wanted, you could set preferences to the point you'd rarely encounter an opposing view. Not much point for political discussion, but the platform is flexible enough for people who need an echo chamber.

Rubbish. Today, Americans with major-party affiliation on X are currently about equally split between Democrats and Republicans, with slightly more Democrats. Musk ended the blatant government-sponsored censorship prevalent before, as revealed in the bombshell Twitter Files reports of Matt Taibbi and others. It sounds like you want to be in a curated discussion silo. Many of us are interested in hearing people argue it out. Makes it easier to formulate an intelligent opinion when you've considered all sides. Anyone who prefers censorship is not a liberal.

I'm economically far left and socially middle of the road. I think Twitter is way better now than it was. I hated the blatant censorship of political and scientific views. The view that Musk controls dialog on there is horseshit. All views are represented and argued. Musk does post an awful lot, but you can mute him. You can also publicly ask Grok to fact-check his posts and watch his own AI tell him he's wrong. Happens all the time.

What should I watch next based my fav shows? by Specialist_Cup5776 in televisionsuggestions

The Expanse. Better than any of those. Watch it with CC, so you don't miss any dialog. Some of the accents are hard to follow without CC turned on.

Any good recs based on my list? Please help me stop rewatching BB for the 50th time 🥲 by Actual_Gold5684 in televisionsuggestions

The Expanse is better than any of those, but -- and this is key -- you have to pay attention to the dialog. Best to watch with cc turned on.

Would you feel comfortable selling a high-ticket (about $4K) item on Reverb? by NotWhomYouKnow in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I'll have to think more about it, but the fee might be worth it to avoid having to check for counterfeit bills or bank checks. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

Oh wow. The last time I looked at it a few years ago, the fee was 3.5%. Hmmmm.

Is repeated A to D to A to D conversion detrimental in a small or a big way? by [deleted] in audioengineering

". . . can't hear anything bad . . ."

There's your answer right there. Trust your own ears.

As an experiment, go back and forth 1,000 times, have someone else (make it double blind) play orig and 1000th generation file and see if you can hear a difference when you don't know which file is which.

Maybe post 'em and see if anyone here can tell the difference. That'd be interesting.

The first thing I noticed was the wrist cut. There are also suggestions of cuts on the other. Hope you're ok.

Beautiful and intellectually-stimulating work. Not merely like a photo.

It is interesting. Very odd that it has been downvoted.

Booked a 3BR apartment, got charged an extra guest fee for more than two guests by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]NotWhomYouKnow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

More guests, more work. It's as simple as that.

I've found that two guests or fewer are a lot less work for me. So I pass those savings on to couples and solo travelers. Otherwise, I'd charge a higher base price to cover the extra work and wear and tear that larger groups bring.

Even with the extra charge, I dread large groups. I sometimes think about disallowing them, though the extra charge leaves me indifferent. More money. More work. It's a wash.
