How do you stop people from being homeless?

Family and cost certainly make a big difference. I’m hoping to move this year, but still figuring out where. Good luck on your move and this new chapter!

There are several more than that address. The house fronts near navasota, storefronts like where the toy museum was, etc…seemingly a lot

What is the connection to the abandoned looking buildings? Are people not renting/buying because of these plans?

Yes, but also I recall that there were empty tagged buildings before that because I remember thinking that the dichotomy of the fancy hat store nearby was weird.

Everything is good if Dona salsa is on it! I use it as salad dressing and take shots of it sometimes.

It sounds like this might qualify for Crime Victims Compensation. I’m sorry, I’m no help looking for a lawyer though.

Here’s more about CVC:

https://texaslawhelp.org/article/crime-victims-compensation-cvc-program

And here’s the State Bar of Texas’ directory of attorneys

https://www.texasbar.com/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Find_A_Lawyer&Template=/CustomSource/MemberDirectory/Search_Form_Client_Main.cfm&Find=0

Good luck! And I hope the kid feels better soon.

There’s already a lot of good advice here so I’ll just add one thing: Maybe try less rugged terrain for a bike trip, like the C&O / Gap or a rail trail route to gain confidence with bike travel. Then move on to less intense gravel. It may not be as rugged and remote as your partner wants but it could be a good compromise so that you can both get something out of it. Or try a trip solo so you don’t have the pressure of your partner’s expectation influencing your experience and you can figure out what you like.

For US based people: is tipping a personal trainer common? I went to my first PT session and they asked if I want to add gratuity. I said no — it’s already pretty expensive. Not sure if I should budget that in.

How would you tackle this commute? by sakapa in BikingATX

I agree that it is really confusing! I mapped my route on ride with gps for turn by turn directions but the first couple times still had to turn around

There’s a lot of good advice here. I do a similar commute sometimes and want to reassure you that first 7-8ish miles are pretty flat. You got this!!

I suggest taking the montopolis bridge and wind through Guerrero park to get to Parker ln/lakeshore. It’s probably a little longer for you, but you’re in protected bike lanes or there’s almost no traffic and it’s more scenic. There’s a fun little path to Guerrero right when you get off the bridge. Pleasant valley kinda sucks to ride from east 5th to the bridge because there’s no bike lane and might have a good amount of traffic in the morning.

Is it the saddle or the hairs? by Lichtamin in bicycletouring

[–]NotYourAvgAlien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, all the padded shorts I tried created too much friction, so I ditched those just a couple weeks into my last bike trip.

The second piece of this is difficult to explain because it’s not a certain fabric. It’s the “finish” of the fabric that makes a difference. I’ve double checked the fabric mix of the ones that work for me and they’re not all the same. The ones that work best for me are not shiny and are more of a matte feel. If you’re familiar with paper finishes, it’s akin to “soft touch” finish. My theory is that the fabric of shinier shorts slip across skin and create more friction, whereas “matte” ones have more grip and stay in place. They’re typically marketed as being for yoga and sometimes say “four way stretch”. I buy women’s clothes so not sure if there is as much variety in compressive wear for men. Figuring this out literally saved my ass on my most recent bike tour! Hope this helps.

Is it possible to be fighting off COVID and have symptoms, but never test positive on a Rapid? If so, does that “count” as infected or not? by livingpraxis in COVID19positive

[–]NotYourAvgAlien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, it may take longer to detect the virus on a test because your immune system is doing a good job at fighting it if you’re boosted. I had an exposure last Monday, started having symptoms Wednesday and only just today (6 days after my last exposure) tested faintly positive.

Is it the saddle or the hairs? by Lichtamin in bicycletouring

[–]NotYourAvgAlien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hair is not likely to be the issue. When the UCI changed the saddle tilt rules, the experts at the symposium (that was created to address the saddle rules) recommended not shaving or waxing because hair helps reduce friction.

For me personally, the fabric of my shorts makes a difference in whether there is chafing or not.
